Motherwell captain O'Donnell dies (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/7164150.stm)

Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell has died after collapsing towards the end of his side's Scottish Premier League game against Dundee United.
The 35-year-old midfielder fell to the ground just as he was about to be replaced with Marc Fitzpatrick near the end of Motherwell's 5-3 victory.

O'Donnell was treated for around five minutes on the field before being taken to a waiting ambulance.

But his death was later confirmed by Well chairman Bill Dickie

It's always very sad to hear about something like this. Thoughts go out to the family :(

I can't believe it. I remember he was a hero of mine as a kid, when I supported Motherwell for a while. I can't believe it. So sad. :(

oh my god. That's horrible. No one deserves to die so young. Situations like this is happening more common sadly. Like the Spanish player, and the Cameroonian player a year ago.... Any reason why?

Also has anyone found the reason of death? Heart Attack? dehydration?

They're talking that it might have been a siezure (sp?) but I don't think they'll know for a while.

Very Tragic indeed. Motherwell's next 2 games and Gretna's next game (whom they share a stadium with Motherwell) have been called off as a mark of respect which I agree with completely. As the Motherwell manager Mark McGhee said 'how can we even walk onto a training pitch let along a football pitch at a time like this?'
