View Full Version : Corporation citybar icons not appearing
ripple01 Jan 05, 2008, 07:19 AM Hi all,
I am having an issue in my mod where the corporation icons are not showing up on the citybar. I am using modified gamefont files but I am 99.9% sure the issue does not lie there. In my initial release, they were working, but now they are not. What makes the problem even weirder is that the corporation HQ icons show up fine, just not the corporation icons themselves.
Is there anything in XML or Python I could have done that could have caused this? It's really got me stumped.
Thanks,
ripple01
Shqype Jan 05, 2008, 03:01 PM I'm 99.9% sure it is the GameFont files.
I had the SAME problem with TAM. It was a pain in the ass to fix, but those GameFont files sure are pesky and finicky.
Try renaming them to GameFont.tga.old so that the game automatically loads up the BTS files. If all the icons appear, then it means you need to readjust your GameFont files.
I learned the hard way, hehe.
ripple01 Jan 06, 2008, 10:06 AM Well, I unloaded my mod and loaded unmodded BtS, when I go into WorldBuilder and create a city and attempt to give it a corporation, I still get no citybar icon. The corporation HQ icons still show up as normal. Could some verify for me that this is abnormal behavior by going into WB, creating a city, giving it a corporation, and seeing if the citybar option appears or not?
I have Blue Marble installed I am going to try and uninstall that and see if it changes anything.
edit: Uninstalling Blue Marble had no effect...

maverick_mw Jan 06, 2008, 11:42 AM I have this problem when I have added Marns Extra corporations into my mod - the new corp icons in the citybar don't appear.
If I use his mod standalone it works fine, and the normal coprs all work fine.
I will have to try the Gamfont files, but I doubt this would work with a new graphic.
@Ripple, are you using custom graphics too or just unmodded stuff?
Shqype Jan 06, 2008, 12:26 PM There's a chance you have some content in the custom art folder, or you accidentally changed the art of the GameFont files in the core CIV directory.
Gaius Octavius Jan 06, 2008, 05:23 PM Slightly off-topic question, but nonetheless relevant: what is the best program to use to edit the gamefont files? Every time I tried to mess around with them using the DDS Converter, I either got problems like what the OP was describing or the game would just crash immediately upon loading.
Shqype Jan 06, 2008, 08:27 PM GIMP , the latest version being 2.4.2: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
For the .dds plugin, go here: http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=4816
Keep in mind that the gamefont files are in TGA format, not DDS. But if you're talking about editing graphics in CIV4 (buttons and such) then you'll need to use the plugin with GIMP.
What I did to determine how big each icon has to be, is I measured the size (in pixels) of each graphic in the GameFont(75) files. Then I made sure to create my replacement within that size, exactly within the same boundaries as the graphic it was replacing.
It's tricky, but I suggest changing one at a time before saving a new copy of the file and then running the game to see your change. If you've done a few without any problems, then you can continue without stopping to run the game each time.
ohcrapitsnico Jan 06, 2008, 08:30 PM I always use DXTBmp when dealing with the game font files its easy to use cuz Gimp is so complicated IMO.
Shqype Jan 06, 2008, 08:37 PM DXTBmp doesn't allow you to edit, only to select Alpha Channels and other actions related to DDS. I suppose it's a personal preference, but I find GIMP very easy to use, and quite simple.
Gaius Octavius Jan 06, 2008, 08:44 PM So you could easily convert the tga to bmp, edit it in paint, and then reconvert using DXTBmp? Since I have that program now, I think that's what I'll try. :D
EDIT: Just for reference, the DDS Converter does support the tga format, but you'll need to define the alpha channel first... which means you need something like DXTBmp.

:( :( :(
I have been able to edit tga files fine and no hassle with conversions.
ripple01 Jan 13, 2008, 08:47 AM OK, so I uninstalled and reinstalled and BtS, patched to 3.13, and tried this again. I'm still having the same problem. I go into worldbuilder, create a city, attempt to give that city a corporation, and there is still no icon in the city bar. Is this expected behavior? If I give the city a religion (holy city or not) or a corporation HQ, it works as expected. Any ideas, anyone?

deanej Jan 13, 2008, 01:16 PM Give yourself the corporate executive for that corporation and try it manually. You will need to create the headquarters in another city though - just gift yourself the required GP.
