View Full Version : Hacked 1.21 'Add Units' error

I can't remember reading about the error that I've been getting, putting together my mod, so I'll ask for help here.

Basically the number of units still appears to be hardcoded, and although they can be added, it's the upgrade paths that are causing my editor to crash or report an error.

The problem seems to stem from the fact that the editor can only handle a certain number of units, after this limit is reached it appears to treat added units as the default units.

This sounds a bit garbled, I know, but my example is that in a long upgrade path for mounted units (I'm adding a lot of knight alternative 'flavour' units). I attempted to set an upgrade path from the camel to the next unit that I had added. An error message appeared that stated that I couldn't have my war chariot upgrade to the crusader - the editor was under the impression that the camel was the war chariot, a problem that I attributed to a hardcoded unit limit. Of course, the war chariot upgrades to a knight, yadda, yadda, and the editor would not allow a loop in the upgrade path.

1. Has anyone else encountered this?
2. I reverted to my 1.17 editor and had the same trouble
3. Will the next patch have a legal, and working (non hardcoded) add unit function?

I encountered this problem, again with knight alternatives. Horse Archer upgraded to Elephant Archer and Elephant Archer upgraded to Mameluke, except Elephant Archer couldn't upgrade to Mameluke because Elephant Archer upgraded to Horse Archer, apparently. However, it seemed to sort itself out when I added another unit, so that the upgrade path was thus:

Horse Archer > Elephant Archer > Mameluke > Paladin

One thing I have noticed is that the number of units available with each tech might be hard-coded. When playing with these new units, I had about 8 knight alternatives. When viewing the Middle Ages tech tree (science advisor) the game crashes. Additionally, there were no graphics on the Chivalry bit, not even knight and war elephant. Has anyone else come across this? Presumably it'll happen with the modern age as well, what with all those tanks...

I also had this problem with upgrades on the Knight path... Do you think it happens with other unit types and we're all just adding a lot of knights, or is it only a problem with Chivalry? DOn't have any ideas on how to fix it though...

I can't see it being a problem with only chivalry - so all the tanks are buggered as well...

Anyone from Firaxis feel like commenting on this?
