What exactly does blessings of amatheon in the custom game options do? It says "doubles the amount of bonuses" but what bonusses? AI? #of reasorces? Anti-barb? I would really like some clarification.

Psychic_Llamas Jan 11, 2008, 05:00 PM # of resources i believe Ecofarm Jan 11, 2008, 05:11 PM # of resources; however, (and this is speculation based on tests by players - sureshot in particular) it seems that without the 'balanced resources' option (located below map settings), reagents become very rare. Perhaps there is a tendency to double luxury resources :dunno: MagisterCultuum Jan 11, 2008, 05:16 PM It doubles the number or resources on the map (or is it the probability of each resource spawning when the map is generating? I forget) Mesix Jan 11, 2008, 05:43 PM # of resources; however, (and this is speculation based on tests by players - sureshot in particular) it seems that without the 'balanced resources' option (located below map settings), reagents become very rare. Perhaps there is a tendency to double luxury resources :dunno: That explains why there are no regents on my map. None! Hopefully someone is looking at this for a future update. I like to play with this option since I play smaller maps. With no regents, you can't upgrade to archmages :( snarko Jan 12, 2008, 04:30 AM Luxury resources can't cause strategic resources to become scarce. The strategic resources are placed before other resources. The problem, as I've stated already, is that there are too many strategic resources being placed and reagents is the last of them. There's a minimum distance of four plots between strategic resources of different types*. This can be changed in CIV4BonusClassInfos.xml. They are called BONUSCLASS_RUSH. Reducing the value for it to 3 should be enough, unless you play with extremly crowded maps. Even then a value of 2 should be enough. *Some map scripts may override this. Blessings doubles the amount of resources to be placed on the map. However this won't matter if there aren't enough places to put the bonus in question. Mesix Jan 12, 2008, 07:18 AM Is it possible to set it up so that the random strategic resource generator will place strategic resources differently. Perhaps it could place one or two of each strategic resource at a time and then repeat a specified nimber of times based on map size. I realize that having "balanced resource" turned on will fix this, but I like the idea of having resources more randomly spaced. Going to war to gain access to a strategic resource seems like part of the game, and I don't like "balanced resources" for this reason. reverend oats Jan 12, 2008, 08:04 AM Thank you all so much! Mesix Jan 13, 2008, 12:40 AM Since there seems to be a problem witht he way regents are generated, maybe a late game building/wonder could also grant regents. Getting archmages, and high level priest require regents. Without regents, many of the advanced features of the mod are simply inaccessible. I introduced FfH to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. He didn't catch on to the magic users right away, but in the last few games he has really grown to like them. I keep telling him to wait for archmages/liches, but they never come. Reagents have not been available on the map at all. Soam Jan 13, 2008, 02:38 AM I introduced FfH to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. Reagents have not been available on the map at all. I have the same problem. I play as the Calabim 80% of the time and I have yet to use the Ritualist once since Regents were made the requirement. Eldric IV Jan 13, 2008, 03:44 AM I have the opposite problem. I typically have two reagents under my control pretty quickly. And I keep mistaking them for Spices and thinking they will add happiness. Ecofarm Jan 15, 2008, 12:28 AM Blessing + Balanced resources seems to give reagents about 50/50. Blessing is nice because the game moves along more quickly when everyone has lots of resources. ----- I have the opposite problem. I typically have two reagents under my control pretty quickly. And I keep mistaking them for Spices and thinking they will add happiness. Soon you will forget they ever gave happy. An automated worker will run to them in a vanilla-bts game, and you will think "but I'm nowhere near high priests/archmages". Marksman77 Jan 15, 2008, 08:42 AM Well, I don't like the Blessing and prefer to look for the resources and eventually fight for them. I hardly ever have problem with reagents, usually I can lay my hands on one or two of them. Mesix Jan 15, 2008, 10:17 AM I use the Blessing of Amatheon along with the No Settlers option. I like having less cities to micromanage. I also like having to fight to enlarge my empire. The only downside to this is that there are almost never any reagents on a map generated with these two options. Deon Jan 15, 2008, 11:07 AM Well it seems the reagent problem is random... I usually have a mythril problem instead. So it'd be nice to add a wonder (or even a national wonder) which provides reagents. Like botanic garden =). Something like this: Botanic garden +3 http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1032/culture1fl8.jpg +1 :) Provides 1 reagents http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/966/botanicuo3.jpg Cuteunit Jan 15, 2008, 11:16 AM I always play with blessing of amatheon. It makes the nation building aspect of the game a lot more fun, and makes it less likely you'll be pooched by having your Copper out in the middle of the sahara desert. You could also just change the bonusclass of reagents to BONUSCLASS_GENERAL. That seems to spawn just the right number of reagents. |
