Hey guys

Im not sure if this is a bug which is why I left it out of the bug thread. It says in the civlopedia that you need the Octopus Overlords religion to get the slavery civic. This is not the case in game as I have managed to get it with just masonry. I think, however (although I can't be sure), that I have had the Ashen Vale religion each time though. Is slavery supposed to be available with Ashen Vale, or is this a bug?

In older versions, Slavery was a Religious Civic only avaiable to the Octopus Overlords followers. Now, they are avaiable to everyone, but with a requiriment of being of the Evil aligment.

Actually, I think Neutrals may use it too, but I'm not so sure. Someone with more knowledge will enlighten us soon.

It requires Way of the Wicked, and a neutral or evil alignment.

Yeah, slavery is available to anyone not of the Good Alignment, which is how I feel it should be.

It does seem like they should probably limit the slave trade to only those using the slavery civic, since cheaply buying slaves while running better civics is so often considered an exploit.

Yeah I agree totally. In so many games I have had a monstrously rich economy and just bought slave after slave to hurry a wonder the moment it becomes availible. It is a MASSIVE exploit. I like it but it is very unfair. It would make sense that you would need slavery to buy slaves assuming the undercouncil sets up the slaving network.

I agree, but slavery should also have a large upkeep, as slaves are so powerful. Upkeep=less money=less slaves=less unfair
