Hey guys

I can't help but think the Lanun should start with seafaring as a bonus tech on top of another tech. Not sure what this tech should be (probably fishing). I'm only thinking this because the Lanun will have slighly stumped research on average at the beginning as they dont have ANY of the starting techs. I don't think their civ benefits warrent having a loss of a normal starting tech (even with the bonus seafaring tech).

Well, Seafaring is an alternate prereqs to at least one other tech, but since you would want to get exploration anyway that doesn't really give them much of a leg up. So yeah, I agree that they should start with the fishing also.

I was also thinking that seafaring should make all ships able to move through oceans. (but if that were the case, it might be a big enough to make them not need another tech)

I'd disagree with the fishing, if for no other reason than the fact that it'd boost Hannah so far ahead of all other leaders in the tech race it's not even funny - the ability to start working 2f3c (coast) or even 3f3c (lake) *resourceless* tiles from turn 1? Even 2f5c(ish, pearls) and 3f3c(ish, seafood) for resource tiles?

Exploration might be fine, though.

Yeah I see what you mean. Fishing would make it silly early on. Exploration doesn't seem apt though cause the Lanun aren't landlubbers lol. Roads seems less important for a starting ability. Maybe ancient chants would be good cause of the link to the octopus overlords and the sea?

It would be great if they couldn't even get Agriculture, but Seafaring worked as the prerequisite of the next techs. Having to get Agriculture always seems like so much of a waste for them.

except when you have that start position with wheat and corn.

What about Calendar?

Pesonally I think that exploration makes sense. You get a immediate path to 2 additional techs (which you *dont* get with seafaring).

I really do not think that the lanun need an additional tech. I do just fine founding either the octopus overlords or the ashen veil when i go for them.

I think the only boost they would need would be to make add the "work water tiles" bit to Seafaring. Then they'd still need to research fishing to make the boats. Still, Hannah has no problem getting ahead of the rest once she researches Fishing.

Hmm, I thought it already did that, but from the xml I see that it does not.

The Lanun get pearls from the seafaring tech. I don't think it needs to be changed, just made so Seafaring can lead to cartography. After all, they need to map all those oceans.
