The question is which Plains tile to put the capital on: W or SW. In both cases, we are one tile away from the coast and in both cases, RCP3 appears to be limited.

So what Scout move gives us the most information? Or is it worth it to move the Scout northwards in the hope of finding another Food Bonus?

Research: Map Making.

I think I'll move Scout to hill 2NW, and Settler 1N, and Worker build Road. Scout W-NW may see more on first move, but next move looks like a single tile move. Should know where I'll settle after first move, likley 1N but could move further along if 2nd scout move N-? Sees a better home.

I think I like scout W-N also and hope it gives me a reason to settle on the gold hill to the north. If it comes down to a choice between settling W or SW of the start, I think I'd prefer W to keep the grass north of the lake in the capital's radius since food seems to be at a premium.

But that doesn't tell you, if the forest 2NE is any good.
I think just scout N. That tells you for sure if the gold hill is to consider at all.

True enough. I'm just trying to have it both ways - I want my scout to move 2 tiles to get away faster, and I want to see some of the territory to the north. I suppose I really should just decide which one is important .

Or perhaps worker N. If the golden hill is not worth settling we still have a scout move to figure out the land before moving the settler.

Is that a sandstorm I see blowing in from NNE? It could mean the land gets even worse in that direction, or it could be that there are flood plains up there. There doesn't seem to be much else to report in the fog.

Vikings are Pacifists

Perfect. I was planning a diplomatic victory as it was. This has certainly made my mind up for me. It's historically accurate too, as us British know well.

I think NNE is desert(floodplains;)), or it could more coast.

Opening move is crucial. Scout W-N then worker N would be safe, but if you then decide to settle by the cow, you've wasted precious worker time.
I think it'll be scout N for me. If there's a food resource I'll consider moving.

Anyone else think the Conquest/Predator stuff suggests someone elsa on our island? And to confirm, 3 billion years old means lots of hills right?(seems that way from the screenshot)

I have to say, the conquest start ... [SNIP SNIP] In general, do not post to this thread after opening the starting saves!! Especially game information gained from the save!!

I think there may be fish W-SW-SW.

3B means lots of hills, lots of mountains, all clumped together (so there will be large areas that are pretty much unusable.

I see no reason to settle on the gold hill - it's a huge waste of gold to settle on one with the capitol - or is that just in conquests?

...after opening the starting saves!!Holy cow-on-a-plains tile, we've already got another xOTM event going?!?!? :crazyeye: My how time flies when you're having fun. I never even finished that SID game...(too much holiday cheer took me off my "A-game".)

My $0.02 (based on lousy fog-gazing abilities)... looks like coast to the SE, and more food to the north. I think the settler will wander there.

for what it's worth - my post was not based on any save, but only on information in the screen shot and units available to each level. I hadn't opened a save when I wrote that and, in fact, am going predator.

I just thought it would be funny for the extra galley to show up in a 1 tile lake, is all.
