I'm having problems with civ bts to note the CustomAssets folder, it seems that the contents of this folder are ignored by the game. I edited the .ini file and set the parameter to not save any cache, tried searching for a cache but didn't find any (showing hidden folders).

I'm trying to dedit the diplomacy text, nothing happens when I edit the text file in the CustomAssets folder, changes only happen when I edit the same file in the Assets folder.

I uninstalled the whole game, used regcleaner and reinstalled. Same problem still.

does the file in the custom assets sit in the same file path as the one in the assets folder?

Yes (except for case), the paths are:

...My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\xml\text

and

...D:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Text

(installed civ on the D-drive during re-install, but it was the same thing earlier when I had both paths on the C-drive).

files that replace Vanilla files need to go in the Vanilla Custom Assets I believe, i.e.
My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CustomAssets\xml\text
in your case...

Note that the customassets folder is ignored with MP games and with SP games when you check the 'locked assets' option.

Oh, that ought to be the explanation. I have locked the modified assets, I thought it was another wording for "don't cheat" (that's what the tooltip says).

Wrong. :smug: Need to go into the file of the program you're opening, regardless of where the original file is.
