Hello there folks,
was just wondering which is that I should upgrade/overclock to get out some more FPS when playing :)

Thank you for your time!

Civ4 needs the following in this order:
RAM
RAM
RAM
RAM
Graphics memory
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
CPU speed

GPU speed does not give much - though it probably ranks somewhere below CPU in effect :)

He's talking about frame rate. Civ4 and most modern games are GPU bound

Well I have 2 Gig RAM. Actually I'm having no problems in Windows, but I'm trying to get playable framerates in Linux as well. I know drivers and game aren't optimized for Linux but I would still love to play without booting to Windows :)

so how well would it run on a laptop with a 2.2Ghz core2duo processor, 4gb ram and an Intel X3100?

I suspect your graphics card would hold you back in that scenario...

Yeah. Your frame rate should be around 15 with X3100

Should run OK. The integrated graphics card might cause a bit of slowdown in the late game, but probably nothing game-killing.

Fitzy the onboard will destroy performance on any large map . Nothing even something as crap as a 128 mb Radeon wouldn't take care of.
