The Civ I forum has 10,101 posts! That's a palindromic number! It makes me happy! :D

Also, the crude self-hypnotherapy I attempted seems to be working, and my fear of death which was making me feel sick has abated somewhat! Looks like as long as I don't let myself drift too far into the topic, I can switch to some other thought if it comes up, without any side-effects. God bless the placebo effect! :D :D

My friend is pregnant! (No, I really mean my friend, it isn't me. That would not be a rave.) They've been trying for almost a year, and they had to go to doctors 'cause his bits don't function quite perfectly, but now she's pregnant! The awesome part is that they live far away so I'm never going to be asked to look after the thing when it escapes from her insides! Babysitting sucks! But it's really cool 'cause I've been asking her every time I talk to her "you pregnant yet?" and now she is! :D

I've been listening to Øystein Sunde's Jeg sprengte TV'n i går
(I Blew Up The TV Yesterday), and I think it's awesome enough to translate the lyrics and post them here.

I blew up the TV yesterday
The travel program disappeared with an embarassed sigh into its
own reality, while flapping remnants of
purchase pressure and wheels of fortune disintegrated in a cloud of thankfulness.
And the camouflaged pushes of the politicians paddled
against the stream among the remains of angry debaters and
dissolved into fragments of nitpicking over party points at a
speed of 625 grimaces per second.
I blew up the TV yesterday.
And blue lightning greedily gobbled up the last advertisement
piece while the loudspeaker membranes went like
inverted strawhats into the sunset.
I blew up the TV yesterday.
And the whole of FilmNet's world of shooting, blood, gore,
slime, and semipornographic horror shows flew backwards
out on a cable network without a repercussion valve.
I blew up the TV yesterday.
so picture fragments of sponsor-burdened
Mount Everest-tourists, national sports team idols and
South Pole explorers took a giant leap for mankind
through the ionosphere into into outer space.
I blew up the TV yesterday.
I blew up the TV yesterday.

I hacked up the PC yesterday.
And 12 MB of RAM scootched on miniskis out the parallell
port and took with them a double handful of unsolvable
but daily problems, while
the printer stood there like a cow and chewed TrueType-
fonts and gulped error messages in the LCD display
while 80-gram environment-friendly paper and color tones
fertilized their way out of the cooling rims.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.
The PCMCIA slot spat out the Old Maid, a flush of spades
and an entire deck of cards to boot and let the SCSI-drivers drive
like maniacs in the CD-room.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.
The config.sys rolled itself up in the mouse and disappeared
in bleak terror into its own autoexec.bat.
Ashes to ashes, DOS to dust,
and may you rise again as a MAC.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.
And the 486-processor saw the light of common sense and flew out
the serial port and took the VESA-bus to Modem Town,
while the queue of reeducated vacuum cleaner salesmen
took with them their motivation courses, their PC brochures
and their sales arguments and followed after.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.
The software packages that had bloated until they were
unusable and exploded with self-importance, lay there like
bad joke books, and the 20th century's greatest bluff
packed up all its promises about increased productivity
and snuck away blushing into the night.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.
I hacked up the PC yesterday.

I've bought myself a pencil today.
Paper and eraser and pencil today.
Imagine writing and reading an acoustic PC.

Have written a letter today.
Stuck on a stamp and sent it today.
Imagine that I wrote an analogue letter.

Have gone for a walk in the forest today.
A little walk and looked around in the forest today.
Imagine seeing it all in real 3-D.

I'm going to read a good book tonight.

 :D  :agree:  :yup: :badcomp: :badcomp: :badcomp:
It loses a bit in translation (e.g. I had to get creative on the religious reference, "room" is spelled "rom" for the "CD-room" joke in Norwegian), but it still amuses me greatly to think about how much crap we're putting up with from TVs and PCs.

Community college is awesome.

actually, i'm not complaining about this one. the place was a community college last year, but it was just changed to a university, so it's still small and lovable and pretty (the buildings are made of bricks and there are big, mossy trees and I just love it) but it's a four year place now. it's amazing and i love it so much and i'm really excited because it was confirmed today that i can go. it's all just so perfect. the church i go to is ten feet from where i'm staying and the college is 1.75 miles away and ahhhh!

Metallica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw them live last night. It was un-<censored by me>-believable! It was definitely worth staying 7 hours in the rain and getting so wet that water was still coming out of my t-shirt hours after it ended, and it was worth the 7 hours of standing up continuously too.

They played only older stuff, surprisingly. The stadium was full, beyond its limit. At the end, when they said they will be coming back in September, and "good night, Bucharest", the people were cheering so loud that even James looked slightly surprised!

RedRalph
Jul 24, 2008, 07:11 AM
Did they do Creeping Death?

Mirc
Jul 24, 2008, 04:49 PM
Yeah!! And it sounded great!!!!!

They played a lot of old stuff.... from what I can remember they did Creeping Death, The Four Horsemen, Master Of Puppets, Whiplash, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, and some others I can't seem to remember now, but they were all very famous songs of them. Master of Puppets in particular was awesome, in my opinion.

Edit: I found the whole playlist:
Creeping Death
For Whom THe BEll TOlls
Ride The Lightning
Harvester Of Sorrow
SAnitarium
FOur Horsemen
ANd Justice FOr All
No Remorse
Fade To Black
Master oF puppets
Whiplash
Nothing Else Matters
Sad But True
One
Enter Sandman
Last Caress
So What
Seek And DEstroy

The audience was great. I sang and screamed with the rest of us until I lost my voice (I couldn't recognize my voice after the concert :p). I'm sure that at least half of the audience didn't understand James when he was making longer phrases in English, but you could tell from every single gesture of them that they loved it.

In fact I remember a funny moment near the end when Lars said: "Am I the only one who thinks 9 years is too long to wait for another concert?" (not sure about the exact few words at the end, but it has to be pretty close to my quote), and a good part of the audience started screaming "Yeeeeaaah!!!!!". I turned to the people around me and shouted, waving my hands "no! no!" and then a fraction of a second after the first "yeah" answer some guys at the front shouted "no! no! no!", and the crowd voice changed from "yeah" to "no". The "yeah" was probably too short for the band to notice from up there, especially when it was followed by a much stronger "no", but it was definitely a funny moment for who's fluent in English. :D

Here are some videos from the concert: http://www.metalhead.ro/Downloads-Filmari_cu_Metallica_de_la_Bucuresti-2169.html Very bad sound quality though. :(

The book I've been longing for is released in two days (which is the rave part because I've been waiting since November for this) and I swear time's only moving slowly because I want so much to read it. (which probably belongs in the 'rants' thread, but, in this case, the fact that the time is nearly here outweighs the fact that I still have to wait)

My doggie Suki was found!! Animal Control called me about 20 minutes ago and said he had picked her up and dropped her off at a local veterinarian's office. Really glad I had called and given the info to the city. I had to arrange to have proof of her rabies shot faxed to the vet and pay a fine at the city, but it looks like they'll release her to me this afternoon!!

Blessed day! And a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to everybody in that other thread who gave their warm wishes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dear [insert my name here],

You aren't the most sensible person in the world and that is why I admire you. You have shown me different sides of myself and the capabilities of real humans. You are an excellent example and contributor to humanity and I am confident that you will always be that way. You are very different from me and in fact that is why I am proud to say you are my friend; where being different in a society is how people are kept alive where it counts.

Many of my friends are friends only because it would be convenient to be so, and when it comes time for these friends to go their separate ways, I move on without looking back. However, you are different and have become one of the elite few people to impress me enough that I will try my hardest to never lose contact with you and remain friends despite the distances. Many people may overlook the true power you have in yourself (sometimes even you don't see it). You are a gem, rare and beautiful, to this world and don't forget that.

I am proud to be your friend and wish that you will have a happy future even when factors in your environment are trying to keep you down. You deserve a good life.

Best wishes,
[insert his name here]

So we have this running gag at the hospital. Whenever we get back from kicking the asses of violent/unruly patients in the psych ward, we throw our latex gloves on top of the metal grating that's suspended from the ceiling of the elevator (I guess it looked cool in the sixties). So eventually the entire ceiling of the elevator was just a mass of puke-beige latex.

And then I read a report my supervisor wrote noting that she cleaned it up and that she suspected it was just some psych patient going to or from the ward.

I found it funny the first time, anyways.

I get to go golfing tomorrow morning. At the same time I might get someone else with money to join my grassman expedition to make it cheaper for us.

YES! I fixed my firefox somehow. My IE was going like snail pace but now I'm back!
Actually, now that I think about it, it was only down for like two hours.

Oh, I love my kitty.

He's so sweet, cuddly, warm and fun to play with. My door was ajar and he popped his head in and just looked at me for a moment and then came in and rubbed up against me and purred and stuff.

Oh kitty. :)

I have a late start tomorrow! I don't have to go to school until after ten o'clock. Which means, I can do my homework in the morning instead of tonight!

someone dropped their Anatomy and Physiology class Mondays and Wednesdays in the afternoon and I dropped my night class and added it,

...a top secret design document recently acquired with a five finger discount in Leipzig indicate that of the more than seven thousand new provinces added to the game, the original plan called for six thousand of them to be in the Balkans. A handwritten note scrawled on the cover of the document reads "This will finally solve the Balkan issue once and for all, as every Balkan nationalist on the forum can have a province of his own, and they'll all be within the same region for carpet bombing. I know this because Tyler knows this."

Trust me on this one, I trained as a competitive athlete for YEARS, LOVED my sport, but still REALLY LOVED the days when there was a blackout or something and I got the day off. Especially at 5:30 am when I could go back home and fall asleep for an hour or two.

It is mostly fun with swimming, expecially on competitions. But some time you get happy with that it is cancelled.
And taras, i also teach kids to swim and it is fun. And you get paid :D

Oh man I discovered Village Inn last week. It's the kind of restaurant that old people go to for the early bird special but breakfast is their forte. I was suspicious but OH GOODNESS their Ultimate Skillet was O SO GOOD! There were sausage links, bacon, eggs, cheese, diced potatoes with various diced veggies, pancakes! MMMMMMMMMM It's a little pricy but it's better than being pricy and poor quality. I went back again the next day and had the same item. I had to stop going there as I was regaining my weight but I hope to go back there again when I hit 190lb.

I'm leaving tomorrow to Slovenia! (I love traveling so that's a rave in itself)

AND

I needed to buy a bag to put my stuff into since US Airways completely destroyed my other bag. I went to this big store close to where I live (for Americans, imagine a kind of Walmart, only not open non-stop) and found among the hundreds of bags a particularly nice Lamonza bag, almost half of the price of any of the other bags there. I asked about it, and they told me it's because two zippers aren't working (destroyed by the customers over the time it was exposed), and they are matched with the bag and very hard to find, so anyone buying that would need a lot of money to get it fixed before being able to use it.

I bought it, and fixed the zippers in 15 minutes WITH NO TOOL EXCEPT FOR A METAL STICK that I happened to have, and smart thinking. :D Hah!
