View Full Version : Why is this mod only at version .30? Whats left to be done?
noxxle Jan 17, 2008, 04:02 PM I am just getting into mods for civ4. I don't like to download mods that are still in beta stages.
Many people have recommended this mod to me, and some say its the best 4x game they have ever played. this led me to believe the game was very far along in its development. However, I noticed it is only up to version .30. Usually, a game remains in 'alpha' or 'beta' phases until it hits version 1.0.
How far along is this mod? Are large parts of it not fully functional?
xienwolf Jan 17, 2008, 04:07 PM It is completely playable, and always will be.
Right now it is mostly played by us to tweak balance a little, and to bug test a lot. Most bugs are fairly insignificant, or fixed quickly.
It is only at .3 because the team split up development into certain stages and they are now in the next to last stage of it. In each stage the add new mechanics and features to the game, but it is always playable, and so far incredibly enjoyable. Especially speculation about future features :)
thomas.berubeg Jan 17, 2008, 04:09 PM This the third time this mod has been at a 2. X0 stage, evry one of which have been completly playable.
skallben Jan 17, 2008, 04:09 PM It's very functional but the creators are insaneously ambitious and continue to create more and more stuff :goodjob:
Goodgimp Jan 17, 2008, 04:16 PM It's as playable as vanilla civ, with even deeper gameplay.
That being said, they're still adding more in, hence the version number.
noxxle Jan 17, 2008, 04:18 PM Great, thanks guys. Ill download it immediately. I've heard nothing but good things about this mod, which is why i thought it was a nearly finished.
Mesix Jan 17, 2008, 04:18 PM I have been playing FfH for almost two years now. Even FfH 1 was a completely playable mod. FfH 2, as was stated above, was split into four phases of development. Version 0.1 was the first stage. version 0.2 was the second stage. Now we have version 0.3. As major revisions are made, it will be incremented to 0.31, 0.32, etc. As bugs are found and patched with each version, they become 0.30a, 0.30b. etc. I am currently playing with version 0.30f and lookgin forward to version 0.31...Kael???
rusty217 Jan 17, 2008, 04:20 PM It is playable with few bugs, that are usually fixed soon anyway...
And besides with the amount of things put into this mod it is easily the equivalent (or better) of any mod that you have already played.....
oyzar Jan 17, 2008, 04:58 PM There are alot of bugs and the AI is completely stupid but other than that it is a really nice mod and nice change of pace from normal civ...
Taels Jan 17, 2008, 04:58 PM I like "version 0.3". It sounds like there is still more to come (and there is).
SwordofStriker Jan 17, 2008, 05:45 PM I can't remember the last time I played BTS. That should tell you something about how amazing this mod is. :P

Stupider than stock BTS?
Nikis-Knight Jan 17, 2008, 07:45 PM Rather, mostly the same as that ai tossed into a new world and wondering where the spaceship is.

Play at a higher level than you usually do and don't use exploits and you'll find it perfectly challenging.
xienwolf Jan 17, 2008, 08:41 PM The AI can REALLY surprise you, but it does seem to be somewhat random for when they manage it. And it seems that the Balseraphs tend to be the most frequently worthwhile advesaries, if they are on a seperate continent especially.
3141592 Jan 17, 2008, 08:50 PM A lot of bugs? I haven't noticed.
Mewtarthio Jan 19, 2008, 05:23 PM So, what all's planned for Ice? I know the Illians are becoming a full-fledged civilization, but what else?
MagisterCultuum Jan 19, 2008, 05:27 PM Ice is supposed to be mostly Scenarios, plus whatever changes will be needed to make these new scenarios work. You can expect minor tweaks and changes with each new version, but once Shadow is finally finished (which could be a while, there won't be any major changes.
Ice will be basically a couple dozen scenarios similar to Age of Ice, but taking advantage off all of FfH's mechanics.

Capria is always the best performer in my games. If not at the very top, always near it.
