View Full Version : BTS freezing computer at 1507, then at 1440
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 18, 2008, 04:39 PM I've been trying to play The Next War Epic mod untill the end. I first started playing one game. It loaded and started the game fine but in the when I either loaded a saved game or continued the game, at around 1507 AD, my computer completely froze. My only option was to restart the computer from the restart button on the case.
I then started a new game. It also loaded and started fine and then when I tried to load the saveg game at 1440 Ad, the same thing happened. Unlike the other game, when I tried to load this game at exactly that date, I recieved an error that said something about not being able to compress the file. So the next time, I tried to load the saved game at an earlier date, it ran fine untill I reached 1440 AD, when the computer froze in the exact same way as the first game.
I have never had any of these problems before.
I am using a Pentium 4 with Windows XP and 756 mb ram.
I have included both saved game and the Diagnostic report.
Please Help!!!!!!

T.A JONES Jan 20, 2008, 12:32 AM Whats you Pentiums code name?
A big differance in performance comes between an early Northwood to late Northwood. Nevermind going from a early Northwood to the latest Cedermill Pentium4 . It makes turns 'die' or run ' in style' ...when ram and graphics card are up to par( I don't know on the graphics but your ram is just about ok for standard map/ less then 10 Civ's epics)
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 20, 2008, 05:23 AM what do you mean by pentium codeword? so how come the coputer works fine up untill that point? does that mean I need more ram or a new computer in order to finish the games?

To find you codemode model of your pentium go here
Its just a name they used to differenciant the major revamps made to their pentium line. Kinda important when you ask if you computer is the reason true? :)
I can't tell you if its you CPU or not unless I know the L2 amount the clock and bus speed even the size 90nm or 60 nm . The pentium comes in very weak to ideal sizes for dealing with that "point' called peak activity.
I had a point when I scanned over a country with many units and the game crashed on me. I would like to think that was from my 128mb 9550 graphics card being inadeqaute. I don't what type of carc you have so can't be the same thing might be your problem.
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 21, 2008, 12:18 PM If I download CPU-Z, will that Identify which pentium I'm using
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 21, 2008, 12:37 PM My pc's codename is Northwood. What other information do you need

Well that tells me a lot. You have the 2nd oldest model pentium4 available out of a possable 4.Here you can see what level of performace your Northwood "Destop" offers compared to other Destop models in the "Northwood" series
They go in order of release and that means slowest to fastest.
If it is a later edition to Northwood series, say closer to 3.0ghz, then its worth trying a ram(memory) upgrade. You good for and 256mb at the least. If your using the graphics card that came with the computer then its worth gettin a new one that dosn't feed of the system ram and will run the graphics faster using its improved engine. (these are very cheap 40-60 bucks for your model)
Other then that All I can say is for under the price of what you would pay for a new compter game you can get a top model in the pentium series and have the potential to end delays or system effected CTD's after you stack the rmemory to 2048mb .
Its alot cheaper then new system so worth looking in to I you know some one who can drop it in place for you. Otherwise just place small maps with 4 or 5 civs and you should be fine.
GVBN Jan 21, 2008, 03:36 PM This has nothing to do with your processor
T.A JONES Jan 22, 2008, 12:31 AM Did you decifer the diagnostics? If so you should have said 'why' while you were at it ;)
Of course the model has something to do with it. Ram is worth upgradin if the processor can handle the game no? L2 and clock is vital. If he had said a 'Williamette' the conversation woulda been over.
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 22, 2008, 02:27 PM what does that mean? I have no idea how to decifer the diagnostics.
why should I have asked why?
auldian Jan 22, 2008, 03:46 PM Does this error occur solely with this mod?
MusicalRabbi2k Jan 23, 2008, 07:53 AM I'm not sure, but I think so. I haven't really tried many mods and wanted to try this mod out. Maybe I should try some of the other mods and get back to you

NO sorry I was takin to GNVN I think was more into arguing with me then helpin you . I asked if he had read your data uploaded and was this how he came to the conclusion he posted "This has nothing to do with your processor "
Truth is he is right. I never saw this was for only one mod. I expected those to be in CnC -still your bettin of knowing what you now know in regard to performance. The more turns you play the sooner you will be faced with a problem due to spec limitation
Ya while you try other mods mybe glance over in the The Next War Epic thread for similar circumstances that provided a anwser. You may have just needed a mod patch
