View Full Version : Vote for favorite civ jimi12 Jan 18, 2008, 05:42 PM Vote for your #1 favorite civ. Mine is Luchuirp. I am evil enough in real life, i like pretending to be a good guy. xienwolf Jan 18, 2008, 06:58 PM Balseraph all the way. Summoner Trait is heaven for me. And when I get bored with that, Insane is just too enjoyable :) Eldric IV Jan 19, 2008, 02:17 AM Belseraph. Forget summoner trait. "Insane clowns" are the only words you need to say. And Perpentach's poetry is just awesome. Rod Jan 19, 2008, 02:25 AM The redesigned Svartalfar are my favorites now. Mostly because I really love the hero and I really like Hidden warfare. Ekolite Jan 19, 2008, 02:30 AM Mine's the Lurchip too. Not sure why, but I always have great games with them even when I forget to build Barnaxus untill turn 200 lol. Lurchip are great. Taels Jan 19, 2008, 03:03 AM Definitely the Ljosalfar. I live far from any forests, I miss them, and I enjoy building a virtual empire in the ancient forests. Also, I think the emerald green ancient forests look better than plains and grassland, and they hide improvements well. skallben Jan 19, 2008, 03:54 AM Grigori, I love the concept of Cassiel and his followers. Gameplay wise...Adventurers - need I say more? Moon Hunter Jan 19, 2008, 04:15 AM The most favorite for me are definitely the amurites. Other than that i love the ljosalfar and balseraph. As mentioned before, insane is the greatest of all traits :) onedreamer Jan 19, 2008, 06:24 AM Clan of Embers, which is currently screwed up though. My second favourite are Mercurians. MrPopov Jan 19, 2008, 06:28 AM Infernals for me. I like to setup a nice global conflict between empires then, summon the Infernals and clean up when the manes start pouring in :) Cuteunit Jan 19, 2008, 07:36 AM I'm fond of the Sidar. They have ninjas and I like their theme. I just don't like their diplo music. KingKeeper Jan 19, 2008, 07:39 AM Calabim, nothing is cooler then "Your Blood will be mine!" OzzyKP Jan 19, 2008, 08:19 AM Arcane Summoners are unstoppable. Sheaim :b: Ekolite Jan 19, 2008, 08:27 AM heh i didnt think the belseraphs were so popular. I wonder what kael's favourite civ is... Goodgimp Jan 19, 2008, 08:55 AM Wow, I picked Amurites, but so far I've played most of my games on Random, and have loved every civ that I've played, so that's a hard question to answer for me :) Thanks, Kael&Team, for such a great mod. Tlalynet Jan 19, 2008, 03:59 PM Arcane summoners are unstoppable vote II. Otherwise Insane is the most fun leadertrait I've seen by a longshot. KillerClowns Jan 19, 2008, 04:08 PM Ljosalfar. I've had some fun Sheaim games lately, but my most enjoyable (and successful) games come from the Ljosalfar. Wipe out the forces of evil, Lord of the Rings style. Then follows the unwritten sequel, where the elves turn upon their former allies in a bid to make the world kneel before the ones chosen to rule it. Humans, after all, were clearly created to serve elf-kind, and dwarves are unworthy of anything but extermination. The best part? All this enslavement mixed with a bit of genocide... and I still get to keep a neutral alignment! Oh, sure, burning the massive Kurioate capital/Empyrean holy city to the ground to eradicate the Overcouncil doesn't help the AC... but so what? Oh, and I also get to pillage the landscape without worrying about the consequences... I'm gonna trash it anyways to put up forests. Best of all, the elven skill with archery makes cities nigh impossible to lose once you've captured them. R0GERSHRUBBER Jan 19, 2008, 04:38 PM I've always loved orcs, but the Clan of Embers needs some serious love to be brought in line with the other civs. Really though, just about every civ is cool, and the only civs I don't care for are the Illians and Doviello: I really think they overlap in terms of flavor. MagisterCultuum Jan 19, 2008, 04:41 PM Their difference will probably be made much clearer in Ice. Mailbox Jan 19, 2008, 06:52 PM The Illians are definitely my favorite civilization flavorwise. The remnants of a civilization that plunged the world into a massive ice age seeking to put the world back into that age? Auric Ulvin is also very interesting as a leader. However, in terms of gameplay, I really like the Hippus and the Lanun. I like that the Lanun are great on water because I enjoy navies. Sarisin Jan 20, 2008, 12:16 AM Clan of Embers, which is currently screwed up though. My second favourite are Mercurians. My favorite remains the Elohim after trying out the two new civs. Maybe the poll could be refined a bit to ask for a Favorite Leader. I just love playing as Einion Logos and it is easy to get the Altar Victory with him at any game difficulty. onedreamer, I don't want to stray too much OT from this thread, but I have to ask you about playing the Mercurians in .30. They used to be my 2nd favorite too, but I was just about to start a new thread on why they are unplayable (without a lot of grief anyway!) in .30. The many bugs (I mentioned some in the bugs thread) combined with the horrible ally AI is just too much and I am very reluctant to build the Mercurian Gate now. I still love taking the Big Guy out with some Angels to bring down the bad element, though, I must admit. But, haven't you seen a lot of problems when you take over as Basium? Grillick Jan 20, 2008, 02:36 AM Damn...Only two of us like the Sidar? Free Great Sages, man! Mesix Jan 20, 2008, 02:57 AM Damn...Only two of us like the Sidar? Free Great Sages, man! The Sidar would have been my second choice. Witzzard Jan 20, 2008, 04:26 AM Voted for Sidar, but if i could i would vote for more ;) sylvain5477 Jan 20, 2008, 01:16 PM The Doviello were my second choice but it seems they are noone's first ! Cuteunit Jan 20, 2008, 02:09 PM I generally shade to greatengineers more than I do sages.. I get too many sages from regular GP generation... OzzyKP Jan 20, 2008, 02:16 PM Yea, I'm always personally biased toward production myself. A great engineer is way too tempting to pass up. skallben Jan 21, 2008, 06:34 AM The Doviello were my second choice but it seems they are noone's first ! Yeah I think the poll would be more accurate if everyone could pick more than one, I really had a hard time picking my favourite out of Grigori, Lanun and Doviello. Humakty Jan 21, 2008, 07:56 AM The Clan of Embers first, but when I want to trash them out I take those nifty sheiam arcane/summoner. Can't wait for the update, see changelog 0.31, CoE stepping out of shadow ! reveler Jan 21, 2008, 11:45 AM I like the two new approaches, but the Balseraphs have to be the most flavourful civ. The Freak civilopedia entry always makes me shiver. Kael Jan 21, 2008, 12:58 PM heh i didnt think the belseraphs were so popular. I wonder what kael's favourite civ is... Its close and it depends on my mood but my favorite is probably the Lanun. I played a Mercurian game yesterday and had great fun and played half a Clan of Embers game this morning (to test out the Warrens balance) today and enjoyed it. icantcmyeye Jan 21, 2008, 12:58 PM Hippus, with Calabim and Malakim a close second Black Attila Jan 21, 2008, 02:19 PM For a warmonger like me, there's only one. Hippus! Superfast horsemen who can rape and pillage a countryside. Surprise unsuspecting workers and weak units who think they are safe far away. The closest thing to Blitzkrieg warfare this game has. Also, one of the most kick ass heroes in the game and who can't like the fearsome combination of Tsunke...aggresive and raider Also, almost by accident(or so I'd like to think) Kael and company made it oh so easy to grab up the Empyrium Religeon since horseback riding and trade are on the way to stirrups! Dumhead Jan 21, 2008, 02:21 PM grigori for me. adventurers really fit my style of play. MagisterCultuum Jan 21, 2008, 02:36 PM Mine constantly changes: it is usually whichever civ I modded most recently. DharmaMcLaren Jan 21, 2008, 03:16 PM Ljosalfar. They feel like the only "good" faction in my eyes, maybe aside from the Elohim and Grigori. The Grigori I also love, gameplay and flavour wise, but I don't like the Elohim so much for gameplay. I just don't think they feel... pacifistic enough, it's too difficult to play them without getting into wars and it's harder to convince the AI to stop wars. hossam Jan 21, 2008, 03:26 PM calabim, amurites and the balserpahs are my favorite Nikis-Knight Jan 21, 2008, 09:44 PM Our fire civs seem the least popular, or at least no one's favorites. Is that because people don't like to switch once they get a civ going? Tlalynet Jan 21, 2008, 10:02 PM Im Civ switching, Im on Svartalfar now, they are a fun play, but they usually kill even high level AI very quickly. Kuriotates I thought would be very interesting, but there games havent been much fun so far. Balseraphs are fun just for the insane trait, I dont really like them otherwise. Sheaim got my vote, they are fun all around and I like their feel. I usually play them Good though. I couldnt find playing infernals much fun, as great as it sounds they just cant get off the ground very easily when I play them. Sidar where kind of meh, they are majorly non militant as they tend to spend their good troops on shades, and they are kind of a late game civ as it takes a while to set up the Altar of Lunorator to get high level quick to 6 deciple units, its still worht playing them once just to have 50 Great Engineers in one city. Thats all Ive played so far, not sure where to go next. Nikis-Knight Jan 21, 2008, 10:15 PM Sorry, by switching I meant in game; the infernals and mercurians are currently at 1, combined. MagisterCultuum Jan 21, 2008, 10:34 PM I'm sure the Infernals will be much more popular with their new demonic citizens building. In my modmod they likely be quite popular: both will have a large number of powerful traits, both heroes start with immortal and will each have equipment that allow a powerful spell, Hyborem and Angels (and all other units with visible wings, except Acheron and Gargoyles) can fly, there is a terrain improvement buildable only on flames which allows a free specialist with demons altars, and Infernal cities start at size 6 (instead of 3) with AV religious buildings. I was also trying to give them powerful starting techs, but it seems their starting techs are ignored and they only get those their summoners had. Cuteunit Jan 21, 2008, 10:51 PM Sorry, by switching I meant in game; the infernals and mercurians are currently at 1, combined. It's annoying to build an expensive(relatively) wonder that loses you a city, just to jump from xhundred score with xcities to one city with no real economy. Honestly you should just let them all be playable at the start. Nimbus Jan 21, 2008, 11:03 PM Sorry, by switching I meant in game; the infernals and mercurians are currently at 1, combined. sorry find Hyborem quite unplayable as he gets autokilled by Basiums world spell leaving a fallow nation even weaker behind. xilr Jan 21, 2008, 11:08 PM Id be really interested in the Mercurians and the Infernals if there mechanics were a bit different. Usually between myself and the AI, most of the choice land is grabbed up before either can enter the game. Usually they get put in rotten corners of the world and cant expand without immediate war. Quetz Jan 21, 2008, 11:10 PM dont forget that ritual that instakills all demons, which I assume means Hyborem and heroes too.. has anyone used that since Hyborem went in? Just IMO, heroes should be immune or at least highly resistant to those instakill spells like the ritual and Basium's dratted spell. edit: What do you suggest, xiir? I'd like to see Hyborem just take a city like Basium myself. It would probably make it a little easier on the AI at least Tlalynet Jan 21, 2008, 11:16 PM The Mercurians look more promising than the infernals only because you can at least continue to get the founding AI tech, but in general it costs a lot. Infernals as it sits appear and get killed in most games, esp if they are close to the player, MC's improvments seem very promising though. Mailbox Jan 21, 2008, 11:16 PM Sorry, by switching I meant in game; the infernals and mercurians are currently at 1, combined. I used to like to switch to Hyborem but ever since the computer started using its first turn to found Dis in a terrible location, I've been less of a fan. Nimbus Jan 21, 2008, 11:17 PM dont forget that ritual that instakills all demons, which I assume means Hyborem and heroes too.. has anyone used that since Hyborem went in? I tried giving all the demon and undead heroes the magic resistant promotion, but they still got instakilled by Basium's spell. Am afraid that giving them Magic immunity might not work or if it did be too overpowering. I'd like to see Hyborem just take a city like Basium myself. It would probably make it a little easier on the AI at least I'd like to see Hyborem's Manes be able to compete more with Basiums Angels to make this possible. Note, this could just mean he can get them more easily as its easier to find units with the right promotions of order/rok to make angels than it is to get manes from Av/OO Ringtailed Jan 21, 2008, 11:54 PM I like Infernals. The main reason I don't play them most of the time is that I feel like I'm cheating when I play them against the AI. Impossibly large cities are powerful... and thanks to the new building, even easier to get o_O Sarisin Jan 22, 2008, 01:54 AM I used to love playing the Mercurians. I really enjoyed playing the Elohim for half a game (roughly) and then switching over to Basium. However, as I mentioned in another thread the combination of numerous bugs and horrible ally AI have driven me away from the Mercurians. Lately, though, I am trying to play a game with EVERY civ, but it gets difficult with the break-save patches and that I like to play at Epic. Still, there is so much variety in the different civs it really is like playing a completely different game each time. :) xienwolf Jan 22, 2008, 10:57 AM Yeah, for me I just don't like giving up the empire I struggled to forge. Being shackled to an AI as Basium doesn't work so hot (and if you don't switch, giving up a city is a bit annoying), and for the Infernals it is rather odd to pop out and start from scratch in a world where everyone hates you. But that could change a bit with the new modifications to Hyborem's group. Mainly though, personally, I am a builder type, so neither one really suits my style. And I play on a laptop, so Hell Terrain (mainly fire) causes a lot more system stress :( Svantotvit Jan 22, 2008, 11:13 AM Balseraph :) Not only do they have wonderful recon units, which I like. No, the whole concept of mad/evil clowns is just my cup of tea :D Sureshot Jan 22, 2008, 12:33 PM svartalfar Deon Jan 22, 2008, 04:47 PM I really like Lanun. 1) I like their "pirate" theme, it's sad AI can't handle the sea, it comsumes a lot of possible fun... 2) They really fit in Cthulhu religion :) Ur_Vile_Wedge Jan 22, 2008, 04:59 PM The Grigori are, IMO, the most powerful, but my favorites have to be the Bannor, with their "all or nothing" take on life. I get pictures of raging crusaders, who immediately would stop their charge if they viewed their victims as honestly changing their ways. Also, they remind me of a character from the Thomas Covenant books of the same name, whom I could believe would rise high in their ranks (maybe I'm projecting the character onto the civ?) Breunor Jan 22, 2008, 10:35 PM I look at the results of the poll and I continue to marvel at how wonderful this game/mod is -- look at well balanced the results are! Kael, you are amazing! Best wishes, Breunor PS I'll vote when I've played more people. The Bannor so far are my favorite, they are such a great fit for the Breunor style! Monkeyfinger Jan 26, 2008, 01:07 AM Lanun Guybrush and his songs > your shitty favorite leader. Falaris Jan 27, 2008, 01:32 AM Calabim here. They have probably the most ruthless and effective way to make sure the population stays in line, and get really high level vampires at the same time. :) |
