I had nicely installed and working Civ IV, Warlords and BTS, but then my computer messed up (nothing to do with Civ I dont think) and everything had to be wiped.
Now I'm trying to reinstall vanilla Civ IV, but when I put the disc into the drive it doesn't do anything at all, and there appears to be no way to make it run, what can I do?

does the computer recognize the cd? i.e. can you see the cd in windows explorer? if so you could just run the setup.exe on the cd manually...

No, it doesn't even recognise the cd, I can't see it anywhere.
It doesn't recognise other cds either, so I suspect it's something with the machine itself but, being a newbie to these matters...

if it does not see the cd - and does not see other cds as well it is probably not a problem with this game. Did you alter anything in the computer? Does it recognize the CD drive as such? could you post your dxdiag results?
Dxdiag:
click start -> run -> type dxdiag -> hit enter -> click save results in the popup
then
under the reply box here -> click go advanced -> click manage attachments -> attach the file you just saved :)

To find out what DVD/CD drive you have right-click on My Computer, select Manage, Device Manager, DVD/CD-ROM drives. Then search the manufacturer's site for firmware upgrades

I am having the same problem and I also made a different post about it.
My CD is in but it's like the computer is refusing to recognize it and you click on it and the drive is blank, no setup.exe.
The thing is, my CD-ROM recognizes all my other games and CDs except Civilization 4.
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks

I... didn't think anything was seriourly altered with my computer, it doesn't even recognise the CD drive.
I have attached the dxdiag results though.
Thanks again guys!
