For the first time ever one of my ships won a 50% combat... i couldn't believe my eyes.

I dont even bother to take on a single ship unless i have 2, coz i had never previously won a naval battle below 70%... and i've ready other people have similar problems...

Does anyone else find it extremely rare to win 50/50 naval battles?

Its ups and downs with me. I don't pay attention to combat odds because I lose and win equally on nearly the whole percent spectrum. Naval battles just seem so much more unpredictable to me than land.

Early ships on the coast have about a 35% win chance, that's why in early naval battles I try to get my enemy to attack me. That's how in a recent game I beat an AI's superior early-game fleet.

It seems like I have great naval luck, and I tend to win naval battles... I don't know why though. I win, approx., 60-75% of the battles.

God, i hate naval battles. I remember in my last archipelago map i seemed to lose every single damn naval battle, even when I had an extra level of combat.

Before air support, make your enemy attack you close to land, so you get the 10% defense bonus. After air support, bring your enemy down to 50% before troubling to attack with another ship.

HMm, in my last game, i used a great general on a single ship of the line, and gave it blitz... i always had another 2 ships on the same tile so they couldn't bash it to death, upgraded to destroyer, and i could sink 3-5 ships in 1 turn, ended up with a 5 star ship :D
