Hello,

This is my first time posting here, and I am having some sound issues with Civilization IV. (The base game, no expansions.)

I installed it on my laptop and it ran well for a long time, I played quite a few hours of it. However, now when I start the game, I get some kind of nasty feedback in my speakers. Sounds like a constant buzzing or somehing. Funny thing is, it will only stop when I quit the game. Muting the speakers, and muting the in game sound/music doesn't do any good.

I have manually uninstalled it many times and then reinstalled it, but the in game buzzing still persists and I can't think of how to possibly fix it. I haven't changed much, I hadn't applied any new patches since then [When it used to sound fine.] it just... started misbehaving.

So I thought I would post here and see if anyone could think of any possible solutions. Oh, and the game sounds fine with my other computer, which runs both XP and Vista, and the laptop I have is running XP.

Thanks for your time and input,
Billius

this is probably caused by the game trying to use a sound capture device (i.e. a microphone) - there are two locations where you need to stop it doing this
1) ingame -> options -> audio I don't recall how it is called exactly but its something with voice capture volume
2) civilizationIV.ini - set the line that is called enablevoice = 1 to enablevoice = 0

Thank you for the suggestion, it fixed the problem. I actually didn't have to change any in game settings, just the .ini file.
