Ok so i know theres a fix out there that i found on these boards somewhere about a year ago for my old hard drive but now i cant find it. It involved downloading a program and reassigning unlimited ram to civ4 but i forget the program and how to use it. Does anyone know what im talking about because id really like to play some civ4 beyon the first 4 hours.

Don't know about the fix you're referring to, but just quit the game and reload when it starts getting really slow. That prevents the memory allocation errors, too.

Even if you don't like BTS, I've found that the performance fixes in it are huge. I no longer get the sense that there is a memory leak, nor do late game turns take a long time.

no reloading the game wont solve anything. Im stuck at a turn where someone declares war on me. its crashed twice and i loaded the autosave each time and everytime this country declares war on me i crash no matter if ive been playing for hours or 35 seconds.

Can't say I've had that happen, and I've played on huge maps with thousands of units. Try loading a different save.

there is nothing wrong with the save file. the problem is im playing fall from heaven 2 and when this civ declares war on me he casts his world spell which causes every coastal city in the world to be damaged by tidal waves simultaneously. now somewhere out there someone has to know how i allocate more than the default amount of memory to this damn game because i did it last year on my old harddrive.

what OS are you using (XP or Vista)?

Vista. I was forced into buying it from my school because apparently XP is obsolete now? personally i hate vista with a passion and nothing i have on it works right...even the "vista certified" crap. whoever designed vista should come use my computer for the rest of thier lives as punishment.

I know that most of the "fixes" around here are for XP only, but you might want to read through this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=224178)

I think you're talking about RAMdrive, but it probably won't work with Vista.

XP is not obsolete. It is still supported, and most work PC's will not upgrade to Vista due to excessive requirements and poor performance.

PC's are getting cheap. I would seriously consider a hardware upgrade (and an OS downgrade).

Difficult to suggest a hardware upgrade unless we know what system he has. What system do you have?? Memory, graphics and cpu?

When i moved to vista with a new OS civ 4 ran fine. Had no issues with it. (4gb ram 256 8600gts nvida graphics 2.4ghz core 2 duo)
