The next Civ 4 Add on may focus on historycal periode, like :
- Rome,
- The Crusades & Great invasions (+-1000AD to 1400AD),
- Discover & colonial era (+-1500 to 1800AD),
- Napoleonic wars, WW1 & WW2.

What about that ?
Shorter playable periode, but deeper historycal taste & flavour.
Shorter but deeper Civ 4 gameplay.

There are already lot's of mods for these areas. I don't think people will like shelling out for stuff they can get for free. (And very high quality too.)

I would like to see the next game include more features, like BTS, not scenarios and maps.

No. That's the realm of Total War and similar games. I like Civ for its randomness and the way you generate a strange historical situation.

Things I'd like to see:

- Deeper, more useful diplomacy options, and AI which actually appears to think about what you offer it, rather than compare your offer to a preset table of values. And AI which doesn't refuse to give you Code of Laws rather than be eliminated from the game. AI which doesn't treat the human any differently to other AIs. I find it hard to believe that a team couldn't write code which would cause the AI to be on par with a player without having a different behaviour towards humans. In fact, if they simply sold a very good AI update for $20 I'd buy straight away.

- More unique graphics per Civilization. They are fairly varied, but then converge later on.

- Generic or Civ/religion-specific terms, instead of "Wall Street", "Oxford University", "Red Cross" etc. It annoys me how nonsensical it is to be building Oxford University in London. And A Shrine to Zeus when I'm a Theocratic Buddhist.

- Religion-based wonders.

- More interesting special events. Olympics as a wonder.

- A more SMAC-style, controlled AP and U.N., where the head can call a meeting every so or so turns and elections take place every 10-20 turns.

- A SMAC-style spy system. I hate invisible units, and I hate the espionage system being attached to finances. Being able to frame leaders was fun. Having a definite chance of success, but a probability of being caught worked better.

- Remove or replace Airships.

- Patrick Stewart doing voice-overs.

Salty Mud,

yes, new features for more historycal taste & flavour focus on certain periode.

New way of trading, deeper diplomacy ways, more complexe military managing, more python events, civics effects, realistic people managing tools, and more.

That's why, may be on a shoorter periode, but deeper GAMEPLAY.
Do you really answer my suggestion ?

Yeah, ok... But those features should carry over for the entire game... Is that what your saying?

If that's what you're saying, I totally agree. I just don't like the way they concentrate on certain eras and add short-lived relevant features.

Maybe a wonder or national wonder which expands the fat cross.

Civic options, political management, trading, military technics, religions & others stuffs, have change with time.

Civ 4 need to be deeper not longer.

The very difference should be in python programming realistic historical periodes, AI evoluing with the (in game) time, managing a more independant and unpredictable "people", etc.

When python historical event spring,
be able to choose between to manage a traditional way or a revolutionnary party in a trouble periode, or,

Be able to choose to manage the "independant" in an independance war,

or the "secessionist" in a secession war,

To be front a peasant war, or a rebellion war, or fighting against a revolutionnary party, or a fascist party, or choose to be of them...

See your people living you to build colonies, far away...
Or build on there own a city or an improvment...

Please make some suggestion about
- people event, (things they do on there own)
- political event,
- people managing tools,
-choose your side in trouble periode

Maybe a wonder or national wonder which expands the fat cross.

Now that is a brilliant idea. Best suggestion I've heard in a long time
