After 2 years I finally decided to buy Civ IV, everything went well until I got the black terrain issue. Most help I've read here on the internet is from when the game was just released but didn't solve my problem.

I'm a bit too lazy to keep on searching for newer posts, what can I do to solve this problem? my game is v1.52 which should have had the problem solved(as I understand, the thing is that my ATI card sucks) but still having the problem

Well as far as I knew the majority for this particular error where using their crap onboard graphics chip so I Can't say really.

You might be another is a mass amount who's gettin hurt by old drivers so don't feel alone. Good news is this is easliy fixed.

Mybe now is the time to "google search ' on the sites engine.
try "black screen" and "driver" and of couse civ4 ( though we know nothin like this ever haapens with civ2 or 3 ;) )

If you haven't already seen it then this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=133232) may be useful. I have a Nvidia card so I can't help you much on the ATI side.

Version 1.52 is rather long in the tooth. Upgrading to at least version 1.61 would be a good idea. Version 1.74 is the latest patch version although you need to update DirectX before applying it.
