Sorry for my bad english. My tailor is rich, but my english is poor, you know.

--------

Hi.

I work actually on a mod. A replacement for standard games (i don't like scenarios).

It's go well. But i'm stuck with one of the civs : The Celts.
I know well the Celtic civ (as well we can know them, that's it). But i want to replace them.
Celts evolved in French (gallo-roman civilization, someone ?), germans (late roman germans are probably late celts, after all) and irish. I don't see how i can make them evolve more than that, and there is too few fantasy celtic units.

The mod have the standard civs with a few replacements :

America deleted, for the opposite reason i want to delete Celtics : Before the XIXe century, they are just a mix of europeans civs, mostly english (and germans in the XIX). And fantasy american units are nearly inexistant.

Maya deleted. Personal reason : I know well Mayan civ, but i'm not fond of them. That's just me. No offense to Mayan readers here.

Dutch deleted. Just for delete an European Civ. Dutch are probably an England civ more powerfull but without the chance to be in an island. I prefer add things to england.

Portugal deleted. I don't know well portugal and i needed to delete another European civ. For me, they are just Spain with an another name. *run for shelter*.

Korea deleted. I know Korea even less than Portugal. I know just the sea battles against Japan and the war against ONU. For me, they are too "chineses". Probably not true, i know, but i needed a free slot.

Hittites deleted. I have nothing against the Hittites. They was a very important civ in the late Bronze age. But they tried too hard to be Egyptian-like, and i needed a slot for Assyrians.

And added :

Ethiopie. Fill the the gap in East-Africa, an history with root way before the Iron age, great names (Axoum, Meroe, Abyssinia...).
And a lot of units to add.

Khmer empire : Fill the gap in Indochina (or maybe you say South-East Asia ?). Great history, great warriors, lot of culture, and can pillage neighbors for idea if i need.

Assyrie : Longest history than hittites, most terrific warriors of all time, and second to none, even the muslims with their exterminating slave trading, in the genocid way (even worses than Hitler and Staline). Very cultural, too (first real library, after all).

Osterreich (austria, Autriche) : You can't make European civ without Austria.

Haida, for fill the gap in North-West America, and because they are cool : Look they are the famous "amerindians who live in sculpted houses".

Tupis, because CivArmy.

-------------

You see what there is, now.

And i want to delete Celts (the Gallic Swordman go to the Frenchs, as Ambact. Wonder-generated unit with swordman attributes but two more hit points. Ambact was choosen gallic warriors who was the "special guard" for chiefs).

But by what replace them ?

European civ ? I have one civ less in this area for now, but i don't see what use. The Dutch, anew ?

African civ ? I can use a west or central Africa civ for fill a gap here, but even if civs existed here, none was really exciting.

East-mediterranean civ ? There is already a lot, i think. And Assyria, Persia, Babylon, Sumer, Turcs (new name for Ottomans. Maybe), Califate (new name for Arabs) already fill the same area...

Other Asian regions ?
There is Mongol from the north, China (and Japan) from the East, Khmers from the South-East, India from the south (Persia and Russia from the West, if you want). I don't see what add here. maybe one of the inner-Asia empire ?

America ? But what ? Toltecs ?

Well, i search for an idea

Oh, and there is really no good alternate french LH. The fourth era for the Napoleon one is... no. Really no.
No De Gaule, no Louis XI, XIII or XIV, no François Ier, no Clovis, no Hugues Capet, no Philippe le bel, no Philippe Auguste, no Mitterand, not even the great Catherine de Medicis, who not only was leader in a country who don't even allow leadership by queen, but give the birth to THREE french kings (and she was pretty hot in her young. *hint hint*).

Welcome to CFC! :D
This is very similar to what I'm doing in my mod. I removed Korea, Sumeria, Hittites, Byzantines, Dutch, and Portugal, and added Siam, Israel, Ethiopia, Mali, Austria, and Sioux. Thus, based on what you have already added I would recommend replacing the Celts with Mali or Israel.

I would add america back in. They are the most powerful civ in real life for an age and a half. Perhaps Make natives for most of the tech tree.

I agree with Weasel Op. It looks like you have only two SubSaharan African Civs, so I think Mali (Garamantes/Tuareg/Songhai) would fit best. And there are plenty of flavor units out there.

Thank for the advices.

Then i replace the Celts by an West-African civ.

I choose the Ghana, the first and more remarquable (more than Mali, Songhai and Bornou, i think) empir ein this region.

The Ghana is know to exist from IVe to the end of the XIe century. As Ethiopia in the East, Ghana was a great enemy of muslims, but in a non-monotheistic way. His greater leader even free his country in the VIIIe century from a muslim dynasty.

Traits : Commercial (historically, gold and salt trade) and Militaristic (his army is said to count more than 200 000 soldiers. Even if it's, we can't say, "millions of mens in an Indian army", you can imagine the level of military organization needed.

Ground army : Probably mixed infantry/cavalry (use of camels, after all). Light protection (no real iron metallurgy).

Arty : Very few, or even none bar some javeliners.

Naval army : Very light (it was a pure continental power).

Use of the sea : Light. Some coastal improvment for use of costal bonuses (as salt, pearls, etc.), fishs, but purely standard in the ship section.

Aerial : No idea.

Cultural : More or less standard ?

Religious : Animist, if i remember well, then few improvments.

Tax : ?

Shields : ?

The only Civ I deleted in my epic game was the Americans, replaced by the Sioux.

As for the Celts, no way they could be deleted: the Basque, the Flemish, The Welsh, Irish, some Scots, Newfies;), to name a few, are all said to be celts.

The Basque aren't Celts, they're an isolate culture :) They just mingled with the Celts alot

Yeah, I saw that :) Genetically we share ties but culturally they're different, the Basques being descendant from the pre-PIE tribes, no? :)
