I did little testing.. created a new tnt gfx, where all markings for bonus grassland are different.. and for my surprise i found that game uses only three from all 18. So my question is why there's more than these three markings at all?
Only markings that game uses:

Hope it gets figured out for the sake of the forum. Hey Have you though of going 3d? :)

Shield and food costs are only used on Plains, Grassland and Tundra isn't it? Therefore it'll only show on those three.

This file is NOT just for bonus grasslands, only the three highlighted tiles are. The rest of the file shows food/shields on other tiles, and to see it in game you have to turn on the "show food/shields on map" option.

I just want to say that the tnt.pcx file works two different ways:
First, if you have your preferences set to not "Show Food and Shields on Map", then it will display the way you see it on the above screen shot, using the 3rd row from the bottom as the bonus grassland.
Second, if you have your preferences set to do "Show Food and Shields on Map", then the tnt file is used as follows:
first row will show on all regular grassland tiles
second row will show on all bonus grassland tiles
third row will show on all plains tiles
forth row will show on all desert tiles
fifth row will show on all tundra tiles
last row will show on all floodplain tiles
I know that it is odd the way it selects different rows for the bonus grassland depending how you choose your preferences, but that's the way it is.
I made a tnt file for myself once that had beavers and ducks on the floodplains, rocks on the desert, deer on the tundra, various animals and plants on the grasslands and plains, but it just gets too crowded.
I would suggest to set your preferences not to show food and shields on the map, as it gets kind of crowded.

Or, just use small/subtle graphics in one column and leave the others blank :)

^I agree. :yup: This could be a neat way to add flavor to the terrain.

thanks guys for explaining.. this is interesting way to add some variation to the map.

no i haven't thought about that, as so far i have quite a crappy computer, and probably in (near) future when i get a better machine, i will commit myself to animation and film.. yet, never say never.
Now, this tnt file should be used in Fallout mod.. and here's one test screenie. In the Fallout mod we even wouldn't like a true 3d gfx. ;) Long live the true original Fallout spirit!
