Montenegro recently got it's independence from Serbia, and also got a football team! As of Jan 26 07, Montenegro's National men's football team became a full member of FIFA.
Today is Montenegro's 1 year anniversary and i'm just curios to see what you guys think of Montenegro and it's future.
--- Some Montenegrin Football History ---
June 03 06 - Montenegro declares independence
June 05 06 - Serbia declares independence. Both nations are now independent.
August 06 - Serbia takes Serbia and Montenegro's place in Euro 08 Qualification. UEFA would have Montenegro as a late entry if FIFA announces the Montenegro Football Association as a separate football association. Fifa doesn't announce it in time and Montenegro misses the Euro 08.
October 06 - UEFA announces Montenegro as a member of UEFA
Jan 26 07 - Montenegro becomes a full member of UEFA
End of January 07 - Montenegro's first official ranking! dead last place of 199th... give them a break they haven't played any games yet :lol:
March 24 07 - Montenegro's First international match, a 2-1 win vs Hungary. (not bad for a first international vs a decent team like hungray)
June 01 07 - Montenegro participates in the Kirin cup and faces Japan, losing 2-0
June 03 07 - Montenegro's second game of the Kirlin cup. Losing to Colombia 1-0
August 22 07 - Montenegro plays an international friendly with Slovenia, Result, 1-1.
September 12 07 - Montenegro plays Sweden in an international friendly. They lose 2-1.
November 17 07 - Estonia invites Montenegro to Estonia for a friendly game, Montenegro wins 1-0.
Upcoming fixtures:
March 26 08 - They face Norway in Norway
After that a ton of world cup qualifiers.

My thoughts:
On there first international, beating Hungary 2-1 is pretty impressive! They only lost 2-0 to japan, 2-1 to sweden and 1-0 to colombia. Sure they lost, but by only 1-2 goals. Not by 5 goals like you'd expect from a new team :p So they imo are probably at the level of Bosnia maybe?
Montenegro's Group for the 2010 World Cup qualification:
Italy, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia
I feel really sorry for this group, except for getting some weak team to get some points off of, (like andorra) they get a team that imo might be as good as Bosnia. Does Montenegro have a chance of qualifying? Italy is very likely to qualify, IMO Montenegro is better then Cyprus and Georgia, and that leaves Bulgaria and Ireland, there isn't two top class teams in this group, just 1, italy, so my prediction is Montenegro will end up in 3-4 place. (finishing 2nd is a bit of a stretch...)
So i'm interested in hearing your comments on this new team, to see if i'm over-estimating them or not :D
