CURRENT SETTINGS:
TURNS: One turn/ day, Thur & Fri (Sat & Sun optional) until August, back to one/day M-F

MAP SIZE: Small
MAP SCRIPT: Pangea or Continents [I'm leaning to random continents, unless someone really wants otherwise.]
CIV PICS: Random
DIFFICULTY: Noble
NO TEAMS
VICTORY CONDITIONS: All
Game Options: Not decided... probably just essentials (no new random seeds, etc)
BTS 3.13, NO MODS PLEASE (You should just be able to load up BTS w/out the mod in question)
This game is for FUN. Please stay in it until the end.
Contact should be limited to technical issues, until in-game contact is made. At that point, I suppose private emails are ok. Please be fair- cooperation while at war is fishy.
The saves will be sent via email- each person please email me at cassembler@yahoo.com, and I'll send out the list with the 1st save to whosoever is first.

I'll play. I don't really care about the setup. I've never played PBEM nor multiplayer, but I want to learn. I'm of the school that the more random the better because it forces you to develop a new strategy every time.

bamf226 Jan 30, 2008, 10:22 PM I'm in the forum pretty much every day, so i'll notice once it fills up. At 2 turns a week, how long do you expect the game to last?
cassembler Jan 30, 2008, 11:07 PM (This message obsolete)
bamf226 Jan 31, 2008, 12:13 PM So would this type of game last a month, two months, longer? I have no clue how long a typical PbEM game runs.
Trainwreck20 Jan 31, 2008, 12:39 PM PBEM last quite a while. For comparison, you can check some of the other threads here, but for example, RabaYuugi's No. 1 has been going for just over 4 months, and it is a small map at normal speed. I don't know if there have significant delays, or anything (although those might be considered normal, two).
In "4 teams - Vanilla 1.74", they have been at it 3 months, and they are in ~1760 BC.
cassembler Jan 31, 2008, 03:28 PM (this message obsolete)
bamf226 Jan 31, 2008, 10:35 PM I can probably do a turn a day, but if it takes me two days i hope no one is mad

bamf226 Feb 04, 2008, 10:31 AM Alrighty Guys, so we have four sign-ups, and I think we're ready to start fleshing this out.
May want to edit your original post if we are capping this at 4.
Map Size/Type
Since there are 4 of us, I wouldn't make it huge if you want us to find each other. What works best I don't know as I'm new to this
Game Speed
What are the options here?
Civilizations
I have no preference
Turn Times/ Days
I can make a turn a day it most cases. During the weekends, Saturdays are usually busy for me, so I may not get a turn in on those days
Teams or no teams
I'm open here as I am a newbie and just in it for fun
Any rules/ policies
Remember this is for fun. Stay in it until the end.
VeteranLurker Feb 04, 2008, 03:09 PM shazam. I am interested, if you still have openings. Will let you know my preferences later if I can join.
cassembler Feb 04, 2008, 09:38 PM shazam. I am interested, if you still have openings. Will let you know my preferences later if I can join.
I'm not going to say no, especially for the shazam. However, to be fair, the other three guys would need to second it. As long as we can adhere to the guidelines in the first post.
Shogu Feb 05, 2008, 02:52 AM * GAME SPEED (Quick/ Normal): Quick
* MAP SIZE (Duel/ Tiny/ Small): Small
* MAP SCRIPT (Battleground/ Smartmap/ Other): Any
* CIV PICS (Random/ Chosen): Random
* DIFFICULTY (Chieftan/ Warlord/ Noble): Noble
* TEAMS/ NO TEAMS: No Teams
* BTS 3.13 RUNS WELL FOR ME (yes/ no): Yes
* Should We Add VeteranLurker and have 5 (yes/ no): I dont mind
bamf226 Feb 05, 2008, 09:15 AM I'm not going to say no, especially for the shazam. However, to be fair, the other three guys would need to second it. As long as we can adhere to the guidelines in the first post.
I don't mind a fifth player.
VeteranLurker Feb 05, 2008, 03:06 PM Sorry to create confusion, I thought the game was still open at the time. Here are my preferences, if it helps you decide:
GAME SPEED (Quick/ Normal): EITHER, quick preferred.
MAP SIZE (Duel/ Tiny/ Small): SMALL, maybe with 5 it should be one size larger still?
MAP SCRIPT (Battleground/ Smartmap/ Other): OTHER (fractal or pangaea, low sea level), prefer realistic maps to anything too contrived.
CIV PICS (Random/ Chosen): CHOOSE, but random would be fine too.
DIFFICULTY (Chieftan/ Warlord/ Noble): WARLORD
TEAMS/ NO TEAMS: NO TEAMS
BTS 3.13 RUNS WELL FOR ME (yes/ no): YES, currently running Bhruric's patch.
I am in Michigan, USA, so GMT -5. I can usually play in the evenings, between 21:00-24:00, if you want to synchronize order of play.
I don't mind gaps in play for people being away/unavailable, as long as they notify everyone in advance.
Also, one suggestion I've seen is to limit communication amongst ourselves to generalities until contact has been made in-game (i.e. no negotiations).
Also, I've not done this in PBEM, but it would speed things up to do some kind of advanced start (so that we aren't waiting a couple weeks for the first warrior to be produced). Something like one era forward (classical?) might get things moving quicker?
bamf226 Feb 06, 2008, 07:34 PM * GAME SPEED (Quick/ Normal): ? normal
* MAP SIZE (Duel/ Tiny/ Small): ? small or larger with a 5th player
* MAP SCRIPT (Battleground/ Smartmap/ Other): ? No clue what this is
* CIV PICS (Random/ Chosen): ? random
* DIFFICULTY (Chieftan/ Warlord/ Noble): ? noble
* TEAMS/ NO TEAMS: ? no preference
* BTS 3.13 RUNS WELL FOR ME (yes/ no): ? yes
* Should We Add VeteranLurker and have 5 (yes/ no): ? yes
bamf226 Feb 07, 2008, 10:56 PM Most of my turns will be after 7PM Central (-6 GMT). Hope this helps. Can you explain what the map script is?
cassembler Feb 08, 2008, 09:25 AM Can you explain what the map script is?
When you start a new game, you select what type of map you want to play on- usually continents, pangea, islands, etc. Some scrips are available as plug-ins that allow you to have more control to create different kinds of maps. I think we're probably going to go with vanilla pangea or continents.
A pangea will mean we meet each other sooner, and naval combat will take a back seat to land combat, whereas with continents, we might only meet one other civ before naval technology catches up.
bamf226 Feb 08, 2008, 09:32 AM I don't have any map scripts installed. Personally I don't care very much which map we use.
cassembler Feb 08, 2008, 12:12 PM Well, the map scrips you have installed are the vanilla scripts that come with the game. When you start a new game and select what type of map you want to play on, you're selecting which script to use to generate the map. Of course, if you only play scenarios and pre-made maps, you probably won't use any map scripts.

VeteranLurker Feb 11, 2008, 09:40 AM Actually, if you all want to think about installing Bhruric's patch before we begin, here is the information on the glitches that it fixes (as well as a link for installation).

Looks like a solid patch, and I'll probably try it out. However, I think, even though you and I know how to backup a .dll (and replace it), I'm afraid that some of us here won't. Ether way, we ether all need to do it or we all need to not do it.
That being said, if everyone could look at the above link and let us know if you're interested.
bamf226 Feb 11, 2008, 08:54 PM I don't know enough about that mod to make an educated decision.
cassembler Feb 11, 2008, 10:31 PM I don't know enough about that mod to make an educated decision.
My gut tells me to keep it simple. BTS 3.13, plain it is. Sorry Veteran, maybe you and I can set up a one-on-one or another PBEM later.
Shogu Feb 12, 2008, 04:25 AM I will be making my turns usually around 2 - 6 pm central;
All setings allright
bamf226 Feb 12, 2008, 08:51 AM I'm not saying I wouldn't install the patch. How much of a difference in the play does it make? Will it affect multiplayer in other games I'm in?
VeteranLurker Feb 12, 2008, 09:27 AM I don't recall the specific fixes, but I slept better at night knowing that it fixed things that Firaxis left unfixed. :-) Still, it would likely affect your other games so we shouldn't install it unless everyone knows they would be fine with it.

Exactly, the savegame's been sent already with vanilla BTS 3.13. Good luck everyone! BTW- I've never played the civ I have and it will require something _totally_ different from what I'm used to!
bamf226 Feb 12, 2008, 12:03 PM If I install the patch, is there a way to turn it on or off when playing multiplayer?
Shogu Feb 12, 2008, 12:31 PM I will make make my first move tommorow sory for that
cassembler Feb 12, 2008, 11:06 PM If I install the patch, is there a way to turn it on or off when playing multiplayer?
The issue with this patch is that it's a core .dll replacement, which is fine if you backup your old one and swap it out whenever you don't want to use the mod.
For this game, we're not using it, but it would be easy enough for you to try it out, just follow the instructions from the link, and make sure you swap out the stock .dll when you play our PBEM game.

bamf226 Feb 13, 2008, 12:00 PM Is there an easier place to put the save file instead of drilling down through the game folder?
cassembler Feb 13, 2008, 12:20 PM Is there an easier place to put the save file instead of drilling down through the game folder?
There are two other options: one is to set up Civ4 to automatically receive PBEM games from email, the other is to just download the save to a temp folder and open it up from there in Civ.
I'm going to try option 1 and report back to y'all.
bamf226 Feb 13, 2008, 10:53 PM Sent the file to VeteranLurker. Is that right?
cassembler Feb 13, 2008, 11:10 PM Sent the file to VeteranLurker. Is that right?
Yes... Is this usually the time you'll play? I wonder if VeteranLurker is going to be able to play this late... I'm in bed by midnight or so, but we'll see.
VeteranLurker Feb 14, 2008, 07:06 AM I did receive/send after midnight, but then discovered connection problems so it didn't actually send until this morning. Cassembler should have the file now.
Odd that it shows the other leaders before meeting them -- didn't see that when I last played PBEM in Warlords.
cassembler Feb 14, 2008, 07:56 AM Odd that it shows the other leaders before meeting them -- didn't see that when I last played PBEM in Warlords.
Yeah, that does seem weird, but I'm glad it's not just me. Anyone else notice a little extra land is explored? I guess to help move the game along...

Shogu Feb 14, 2008, 01:12 PM I have received wrong save game

I'll generally make my move any time between 7 and 9 Central. I had a lot of things to take care of last night and I realized that I hadn't updated to 3.13, so that took FOREVER.

It's all good.
BTW- I've discovered that you must 'end turn' in order for BTS to create a valid-to-send save game. You can't just 'save game' from the menu!!!
 Oops!
bamf226 Feb 15, 2008, 09:16 AM Does Shogu have the correct file now?
cassembler Feb 15, 2008, 11:34 AM Does Shogu have the correct file now?
Yeah, he should. I sent it back around 1:30 yesterday.
bamf226 Feb 15, 2008, 12:18 PM I got the new file this morning. I'll make a move this afternoon when I get home.
VeteranLurker Feb 15, 2008, 09:32 PM I sent it along earlier this evening.

Yikes! Hope all is well...
bamf226 Feb 19, 2008, 10:58 AM Best wishes your way. What happened?
bamf226 Feb 19, 2008, 11:01 AM I seem to get the new file every morning at 6. Am I holding up the game by waiting until the evening to move? I typically am busy getting ready for work that early in the morning, but I can work on moving earlier if that helps move things along.
Nick, did you figure out how to e-mail/receive files in-game?
cassembler Feb 19, 2008, 01:02 PM I seem to get the new file every morning at 6. Am I holding up the game by waiting until the evening to move? I typically am busy getting ready for work that early in the morning, but I can work on moving earlier if that helps move things along.
No, I seem to be getting mine from VeteranLurker just fine... I'm sending mine at 11-midnoght or so. I dunno how the others feel.
Nick, did you figure out how to e-mail/receive files in-game?
No, but I haven't really poked around much... I think it requires setting up a Gamespy account, and my email already points to the right folder when I attach a file, so it's kind of redundant.
VeteranLurker Feb 19, 2008, 01:03 PM Slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk Monday AM. It has been an icy winter here in Michigan -- too damned icy, obviously!
bamf226 Feb 19, 2008, 01:37 PM Sorry to hear that. When do you find out if you need surgery?
VeteranLurker Feb 19, 2008, 05:28 PM i'll get a second opinion this Thurs., surgery would soon follow if necessary.
BTW, I will be out of town for a week in mid-March, but may be able to bring CIV on a lap top -- will keep you posted.
cassembler Feb 22, 2008, 01:22 AM i'll get a second opinion this Thurs., surgery would soon follow if necessary.
How was the second opinion?
VeteranLurker Feb 22, 2008, 06:47 PM no second opinion -- apparently can't even pay cash for that anymore. now i need another first opinion before they will reschedule the surgery. my pain in my wrist has now become a pain in the ass.
bamf226 Feb 25, 2008, 09:11 PM I haven't received a new file in a couple days. Is everyone ok?
cassembler Feb 25, 2008, 10:20 PM I think I sent mine to Vet on Friday night. I think we decided to not play on the weekends, but it'd odd you haven't got your yet... Veteran, you ok?
bamf226 Feb 26, 2008, 08:38 AM I got one Saturday morning and sent it to Vet. I also sent you (Nick) an e-mail Saturday and haven't heard a response.
Shogu Feb 26, 2008, 08:38 AM shoudn't i get the save after you not vet ?
VeteranLurker Feb 26, 2008, 10:38 PM The last file I sent out was Sat. evening.
bamf226 Feb 27, 2008, 06:12 AM shoudn't i get the save after you not vet ?
If I remember correctly, the cycle is
Cassembler
Shogu
me
Vet
If Vet sent it out Saturday night, we should be waiting on Cassembler who may not have received the file nor the e-mail I sent as I he hasn't responded.
bamf226 Feb 29, 2008, 03:15 PM So, anyone know what's going on?
VeteranLurker Feb 29, 2008, 03:36 PM I sent turn 9 (BC-3460) to Cassembler at 5:52 pm EST on Sat. Feb. 23.
bamf226 Feb 29, 2008, 03:52 PM I hope he's ok.
VeteranLurker Mar 02, 2008, 10:14 PM so i guess it's over?
bamf226 Mar 03, 2008, 12:01 PM I certainly hope not. It may be in a long pause. Something drastic must have happened to Nick that took him out of contact.
SV110MHH Mar 03, 2008, 05:37 PM Need a replacement? =-)
bamf226 Mar 03, 2008, 07:34 PM Good question. Cassembler was the person that started it, so I don't know how to answer that question. What do the rest of you think?
cassembler Mar 03, 2008, 11:40 PM No guys, I'm here... stopped getting emails from the message board for some reason... I thought I sent off the last save... I'll attach it here, I thought it went to Vet Lurker, but I see it goes to Shogu...
Sorry guys! I really was just waiting around for a savegame...

It seems we are back on track
VeteranLurker Mar 10, 2008, 02:45 PM I will be out of town and unable to do the turns from Thursday evening March 13 til Wednesday evening March 20.
bamf226 Mar 10, 2008, 03:18 PM Do you want to find a sub for that week?
VeteranLurker Mar 12, 2008, 11:34 AM I guess I'd rather not, but if that's what everyone else wants. We've already had one stopage, and this does have a short, finite endpoint. Seems kinda cruel to boot someone after a week, when all they'd get to do is move my scout. But it would keep things moving, and I can set anything up that needs decisions in advance (production queue, research).
bamf226 Mar 12, 2008, 11:37 AM That's fine. No pressure from me.
cassembler Mar 13, 2008, 07:34 AM Sounds good to me...
so... you have... a scout.... :trouble:
VeteranLurker Mar 20, 2008, 08:36 AM Am back now. Have played the latest turn and sent it on to Cassembler (late last night).
bamf226 Mar 20, 2008, 08:17 PM Welcome back. I hope the time off was fun.
VeteranLurker Mar 20, 2008, 10:04 PM Mostly a conference for work, but I experienced the mud-rain in San Antonio on Tuesday -- very weird!
cassembler Mar 21, 2008, 02:15 AM Mostly a conference for work, but I experienced the mud-rain in San Antonio on Tuesday -- very weird!
How would you describe this? (I live in D/FW). Never heard of 'mud rain'...
BTW- I got a savegame last night (Wed) & sent to Shogu, but not a savegame today (Thursday)...
VeteranLurker Mar 24, 2008, 09:33 AM It didn't come down very hard where I was. It covered cars in a thin coating of mud in other places. Imagine a wet muddy dog that shook itself and you getting spattered by the drops. Apparently it is a 'desert kind of thing' (high wind blows dust up into the rain that is in front of it) but they hadn't experienced it in SAT before.
I received a save file yesterday (Sunday) and sent it along.
cassembler Mar 28, 2008, 11:26 PM Did someone drop the game?
VeteranLurker Mar 29, 2008, 10:33 AM I last received/sent a file at 8:24 pm Weds. Mar. 26, BC-2800.
cassembler Mar 30, 2008, 02:19 PM Re-Sent 2800BC to Shogu, Sunday 2pm
(Originally sent Wed night, midnight-ish)
bamf226 Mar 30, 2008, 02:58 PM I sent BC 2800 to Vet on 3/27
Shogu Mar 31, 2008, 07:22 AM Yes i got the 2800bc twice so there is no need to send it to bamf once more since he's got it
VeteranLurker Mar 31, 2008, 09:27 AM Bamf, I cannot check since I am at work, but can you resend BC-2800?
bamf226 Mar 31, 2008, 03:39 PM Bamf, I cannot check since I am at work, but can you resend BC-2800?

VeteranLurker Mar 31, 2008, 08:58 PM Received/Played -2800, sent along -2740. I have no record of receiving it prior to now, including in my spam filter.
cassembler Apr 01, 2008, 07:03 AM 2740 received, all seems well...
bamf226 Apr 02, 2008, 08:50 AM received the next turn this morning. Will play tonight.
bamf226 Apr 04, 2008, 04:31 PM I will probably not have an opportunity to play my turn until late tonight or tomorrow morning.
Shogu Apr 06, 2008, 01:09 PM My computer has broken down it will take a couple of days before i buy new one and make it run
Please be patient ;)

bamf226 Apr 15, 2008, 09:14 AM Any luck on the new PC?
Shogu Apr 16, 2008, 05:54 AM I already got it . We have even played 1 turn and then game stopped
Last save i have sent BTS_3.13_Rookie_Challenge_BC-2440_to_bamf226.CivBeyondSwordSave (36KB)
VeteranLurker Apr 16, 2008, 06:30 AM When was that? It might help for everyone to notify when they send a turn if we have had a break. Also, perhaps everyone needs to make sure that the savefiles are not being sent to the spam folder?
bamf226 Apr 16, 2008, 09:14 AM I haven't seen a save file since the one I sent it out on the 4th. I do not know what year that was as I send directly from Civ4.
bamf226 Apr 17, 2008, 10:45 AM Shogu can you resend so I can continue the game?
bamf226 Apr 17, 2008, 10:45 AM double post by mistake

Shogu Apr 23, 2008, 08:05 AM Resent to bamf
bamf226 Apr 23, 2008, 07:40 PM Replayed 2320 BC and sent to Vet
VeteranLurker Apr 23, 2008, 08:33 PM Haven't received it yet (??). It's not in my spam folder either.
bamf226 Apr 23, 2008, 09:37 PM resent file
VeteranLurker Apr 23, 2008, 10:04 PM Got it, played it, sent it. Thanks.
bamf226 Apr 24, 2008, 07:49 PM Vet, let me know if you don't get the next turn.
cassembler Apr 25, 2008, 01:27 AM Sent to Shogu around midnight.
How's everyone doing???
bamf226 Apr 26, 2008, 04:01 PM I didn't have an opportunity to play yesterday. I have just played and sent to Vet.
I'm doing well. The game seems to be moving along although I'm questioning my start.
bamf226 Apr 27, 2008, 08:05 PM Played and sent to Vet
VeteranLurker Apr 27, 2008, 09:24 PM have not received a file yet this evening.
bamf226 Apr 28, 2008, 09:04 AM I wonder why you only get the file part of the time. I'll resend tonight when I get home.
bamf226 May 05, 2008, 09:08 AM Had some problems with the computer over the weekend. I have the file and I'm hoping I can install BTS on another computer to play. It's looking like a reinstall for XP tonight.
cassembler May 06, 2008, 12:35 PM ahhh, the joys of Windows...
bamf226 May 06, 2008, 02:55 PM got BTS on another machine. Sent the file over to Vet this morning.
bamf226 May 14, 2008, 09:08 AM I didn't receive a file this morning. Just letting you know in case you tried to send it.
VeteranLurker May 14, 2008, 11:25 AM I last played/sent Tuesday evening, May 13.
And: Finally, there is something to do now during every turn!
bamf226 May 14, 2008, 02:44 PM not for me. Guess that explains why I'm so far back.
VeteranLurker May 15, 2008, 12:21 PM Haven't received a file since Tuesday evening.
bamf226 May 15, 2008, 03:47 PM Last file I received was Tuesday morning. I'm wondering if Ankka is having problems. He is typically very prompt and vocal about delays.
**EDIT** Oops I meant Shogu. Ankka is an opponent in another game.
cassembler May 15, 2008, 07:25 PM IIRC, I last sent a game to topsik85 on the 13th (Tuesday) evening...
Shogu May 16, 2008, 12:28 AM I have sent this file the same day to bamf 1480 BC
bamf226 May 16, 2008, 08:49 AM Still don't have the file. Posted Wednesday morning that it was not received:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6819440&postcount=137
Shogu May 17, 2008, 03:15 AM sent the file once more
cassembler May 17, 2008, 12:47 PM Re-sent 1420 BC today. This might be my fault, sorry. Started a new job this week, an 8-5 gig.
bamf226 May 17, 2008, 04:49 PM Played and sent to vet. The file I got from Shogu was 1480 BC.
VeteranLurker May 17, 2008, 07:10 PM so what happened here? i just replayed the same turn i did last tuesday.
bamf226 May 17, 2008, 11:48 PM That is the file that I got from Shogu. I'm guessing he didn't get 1420 BC based on cassembler's post. Once I get 1420 BC, I will play and send.
Shogu May 18, 2008, 03:28 AM sent 1420 BC
bamf226 May 18, 2008, 07:34 PM 1420 BC sent to Vet
cassembler May 22, 2008, 11:44 PM Hey guys, I'll be in San Antonio until Tuesday. I'll be able to play Tuesday night. Happy Memorial Day!
bamf226 May 23, 2008, 08:51 AM I'm going to be holding up the works after today. I'll send the next turn to Vet and then I'm out until next weekend.
bamf226 Jun 01, 2008, 08:48 PM BC 1060 sent to Vet
VeteranLurker Jun 02, 2008, 09:31 AM BC 1000 sent to Cassembler last night.
bamf226 Jun 02, 2008, 09:41 AM BC 1000 sent to Vet this morning.
bamf226 Jun 11, 2008, 09:02 AM Haven't seen a file in a couple days.
VeteranLurker Jun 11, 2008, 02:21 PM Sorry, it got lost in my inbox. Have played/sent BC-0720.
bamf226 Jun 12, 2008, 11:00 AM Played and sent 720 BC to Vet
cassembler Jun 17, 2008, 05:56 PM Hey guys, looks like I will start some extensive traveling with my job. I'll be in Nashville from Monday to Thursday, for at least the next two weeks (starting next week). I'm not sure if I can get away with loading BTS onto the work laptop...:mischief:
Ether way, it might be a good idea to hand my game off until I know for sure, unless y'all are cool with three or four turns on Friday through Sunday each week (for 2 to 6 weeks). I'd hate to be _that guy_, so you all decide how you want to play it. If you know of a good fill-in, etc. Keep me posted- I'm not leaving until Monday morning.
PS- If possible, I'd like to resume the game when I'm finished (2-6 weeks of this Mon-Thur travel), but if not, I'd still like to know how it turns out.
bamf226 Jun 18, 2008, 08:45 AM Since you started the game, you kinda have the final decision on what happens. If you want to find a sub for 2-6 weeks, you can always direct the moves and have the sub make the moves for you. Should be easy enough to send screenshots. Looks like the only problem you have is being able to load BTS on the laptop.
VeteranLurker Jun 18, 2008, 11:41 AM It's fine with me if you want to find a replacement or just try to run turns on the weekends. I'm enough of a control freak that I probably couldn't handle letting someone else run my civ, unless it was someone I knew well enough and could talk to about what to do.
cassembler Jun 19, 2008, 11:42 PM The next question, do you all know of anyone who would like to play? I'm pretty sure this traveling will last the full six weeks... I'd hate to see the game deteriorate, since I'm winning and all:mischief:
Keep me posted, I'm not leaving until Monday morning.
bamf226 Jun 20, 2008, 09:42 AM I don't know anyone personally. It seems most games are halting right now because of the new patch. There is a thread for replacements. You might find someone there.
BTW, has everyone updated?
cassembler Jun 21, 2008, 09:53 AM 1st post is updated (it's about time). Keep in mind I will be able to check the forums fine.
So I'd say everyone upgrade asap, and stay tuned...
EDIT: I'm gonna stick with it. First of all, I'm only missing 3 nights a week. Second of all, I may be able to get BTS on the laptop if the ITG guys tell me they won't tell anyone ... ...
bamf226 Jun 21, 2008, 02:34 PM I think we might have a problem. I just got the file and have already patched, so I can't open it. This will be a cyclical effect for everyone. What do we do?
cassembler Jun 22, 2008, 12:46 PM I think we might have a problem. I just got the file and have already patched, so I can't open it. This will be a cyclical effect for everyone. What do we do?
Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
There must be some way to update a save game... I'd hate to see us all have to go through the un/reinstall cycle... If it matters, I still have 3.13 if there's a way for me to open it and save it as 3.17...
bamf226 Jun 22, 2008, 08:59 PM I'm really not sure what to do.
VeteranLurker Jun 23, 2008, 01:50 PM I've been through a version update in PBEM once before, but forget exactly what has to happen. I'll look back at my emails and see if I can figure it out.
VeteranLurker Jun 23, 2008, 01:57 PM OK, what I think has to happen is: Cassembler, as game administrator, has to "reset the admin password" on the savefile PRIOR to upgrading. Then once he upgrades, load the game and reset the password and it should be OK. Emphasis on 'should be'...
bamf226 Jun 23, 2008, 02:44 PM How does one reset the password?
VeteranLurker Jun 23, 2008, 03:20 PM The administrator (person who set up the game) has to do so. As I vaguely recall, you just delete it in-game, then save the turn, then do the upgrade, then open the savefile, then reset the password to whatever you want, then finish the turn, then send the turn on to the next player. Only the admin has to do this, the other players should be able to load the new file once they have upgraded to the new version.
bamf226 Jun 24, 2008, 03:33 PM Maybe cassembler can do this and resend the last turn. I hope he hasn't patched yet.
cassembler Jun 26, 2008, 07:56 PM Hey guys I'm back in town. I haven't upgraded. I'll try this process tonight and verify. Stand by for a report sometime tonight, probably 11 or so.
cassembler Jun 26, 2008, 10:35 PM Ok, the process Veteran proposed worked without a hitch. Which makes me wonder:rolleyes: if something went wrong... Perhaps I'm just cynical...
Anywho, sent off 560 to Shogu. I'll be here 'till Monday morning again.
bamf226 Jun 27, 2008, 09:30 AM Worked like a charm. Able to open and complete the next turn.
bamf226 Jul 03, 2008, 08:58 AM I don't expect we will make much progress this weekend. I will be out of town until Sunday afternoon.
cassembler Jul 03, 2008, 11:03 PM Good news guys, my project will only take two more weeks. This means, theoretically at least, that I will be traveling only until July 18 (instead of early Aug).
Shogu Jul 29, 2008, 05:02 AM Ok i got some strange bug , i lost one turn of production and growth only in my capital , hope that will not be repeating itself in every turn .
bamf226 Jul 29, 2008, 10:08 AM Any idea what caused that? Was it a random event that shows up in your log?
Shogu Jul 29, 2008, 06:04 PM No idea . No random event in log.
In 120 BC i am loading turn and finished building granary. When clicking end turn my pop grow up( from 6 -> 7) but i don't have the half food stored. ( that was the first sign that something is wrong).
In 80 BC i am loading turn and situation repeat itself. I have a message that i have finished building granary and have a pop = 6 . When finishing turn i have again pop 7 but no food stored.
bamf226 Jul 30, 2008, 09:57 AM I never knew you could see the food in the granary. How do you do that?
VeteranLurker Jul 31, 2008, 10:03 AM Wait -- did you get TWO occurances of the granary being completed in the same city? Or in different cities?
I think if you complete the granary on the same turn that your population goes up, it kicks over to the next population accumulation before accounting for the granary (i.e., all food is gone, you start with an empty bin). If you complete the granary before your population goes up, it should work as you expect with half of the food held over.
cassembler Aug 01, 2008, 07:46 PM Hmmm... Keep an eye on it and see what happens over the next couple of turns.
BTW, I'm back in town all this week.
Shogu Aug 02, 2008, 06:05 AM I have completed my granary twice in the same city :) waiting for the next turn and see what's gonna happen
cassembler Aug 03, 2008, 02:14 PM Who has the current game???
bamf226 Aug 04, 2008, 08:53 AM Last turn I saw was BC 120. I sent that a week ago.
VeteranLurker Aug 04, 2008, 08:08 PM I sent BC-0040 at 11:44 pm on 7/28....
VeteranLurker Aug 05, 2008, 11:36 PM So, uh, who are we waiting on??
cassembler Aug 06, 2008, 02:43 AM Oh poop! My bad. Apparently, I had opened the email and never did anything with it... I usually play and send right away.
Please forgive me!
(Sent 40 BC)
bamf226 Aug 07, 2008, 07:22 AM No problem. I've done that before as well
VeteranLurker Sep 04, 2008, 09:03 PM OK, so the last file I sent was at 12:25 am Tues Sept 2, AD-0440. What's going on?
cassembler Sep 06, 2008, 10:10 AM Sorry guys, I've been out of town and just recently moved. I haven't set up an internet connection yet, and will have to transfer save files via pin drive for a week or so. I'll sent a game within the hour, and should be in town next week after Tuesday.
Sorry for not letting anyone know.
bamf226 Sep 07, 2008, 07:03 PM Just let us know when it gets started again. No rush.
cassembler Sep 10, 2008, 09:41 PM I can still play- I just have to transfer saves from my work laptop onto my home PC. The laptop has a broadband card, but I don't have the brass to install Civ4 on it.
So we're still on.
Also, good news. Begining in October, I shoudn't be going out of town at all, except the occasional trip.
bamf226 Sep 29, 2008, 02:05 PM I'm going to be out of town Oct. 1 - Oct. 5. I'm taking my laptop, but I'm not quite sure if I will have internet access. I expect I will have access in the lobby of the hotel if nothing else. Just letting you guys know.
cassembler Oct 20, 2008, 10:20 PM Guys, I'll be out of town Tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct 21) thru Sunday, October 26. I wish it was vacation, but it is not...
I'll try to catch a game later tonight, but I dunno when I'll check. Otherwise, I'll get it Sunday afternoon. Football allowing...
cassembler Oct 28, 2008, 08:36 PM Guys, I'm back in town. I sent off a game Sunday night.
bamf226 Oct 29, 2008, 05:43 PM Sent AD 900 out yesterday, so it should be on it's way back to you.
bamf226 Nov 17, 2008, 02:09 PM I haven't seen a turn in quite some time. Where did it get to?
cassembler Nov 18, 2008, 10:37 AM I sent a game off to Shogu over a week ago, and confirmed that he had it and sent it.
Maybe someone's been playing F3 too much...:mischief:
Shogu Nov 18, 2008, 01:57 PM So you didn't send me next turn ? If so good because i can't make any turns now.
cassembler Nov 19, 2008, 01:28 PM Shogu, I'm not sure what you meant by that last comment. The last save I sent you, you passed it on, yes? I haven't gotten the next turn yet.
Shogu Nov 20, 2008, 06:10 AM Yes i did as i replayed in an email.
But now i have some problem accesing my account , thats why i was asking.
VeteranLurker Nov 20, 2008, 08:22 AM Last file I sent was AD-1020 on Sat. Nov. 8...
bamf226 Nov 20, 2008, 11:19 AM The last one I have record of is AD 980 from 11/7. So there is a break between VeteranLurker and me.
cassembler Nov 23, 2008, 07:04 PM I just re-sent 1020 AD to Shogu (Sunday, Nov 23).
