View Full Version : Questions
Mediteran Jan 31, 2008, 06:26 PM hi, i just have a few questions, should i download this mod for civ4 vanilla or for beyond the sword? what is the difference? thanx
also, i havent got my copy of BTS yet, i ordered it though so i should get it in the next few days. i was wondering if it is much slower than vanilla performancewise?
Shqype Jan 31, 2008, 09:11 PM No, I'd say it's faster. :)
graywarden Feb 01, 2008, 03:31 AM Mediteran,
At this point Vanilla TAM is more polished because it was the last major revision of CIV4. If you are able to dowload V 1.99, you will have the last version of the "old guard" of TAM, and in some ways I prefer to v 2.01. I began testing in v 1.99 with Laurino.
The BTS version is really just vanilla 2.01 converted to BTS v .074. The basic engine in is the same, but the mechanics begin to alter to the extra features introduced by BTS like the random events.
To be honest I was so fond of TAM V1.99 (vanilla), I found it hard to play Civ4 vanilla or BTS until I was testing the MOD versions of TAM. To date I still have not finished a complete game of vanilla BTS.
Mediteran Feb 01, 2008, 05:10 AM thanx for the answers :) now whats the "old guard"? :) whats the difference between 1.99 and 2.01?
graywarden Feb 01, 2008, 05:38 AM Mediteran,
The "old guard" was the dev-group that recruited me. Primarily Shyqpe and Laurino of course with Thamis's guiding hand.
Version 2.01 introduced an entirely new civic setup including cults whereas
Version 1.99 was the most polished version dating back to pre v1.96 when I discovered the MOD.
I consider v 1.99 the purist TAM to date, but have high hopes that as we develop the BTS version that Purity will be taken to its ultimate form
Mediteran Feb 01, 2008, 05:52 AM ah ok thank you. so i should download 1.99 for civ4 vanilla, and for BTS the newest there is? is there a link somewhere to download 1.99?
oh and v1.99 is also for civ4 1.74 or 1.61?
graywarden Feb 01, 2008, 06:32 AM Mediteran,
Sorry it looks like the link to download v1.99 isnt available at this time. I may have committed hari-kari by posting my opinion, haha
Maybe the powers that be will consider re-linking that version on our website after reading this thread.
In the meantime, enjoy v2.01 and give us your opinions, a good bit will dovetail into BTS version, until such time you purchase BTS
Mediteran Feb 01, 2008, 07:19 AM ah ok thank you, ill try 2.01 :)
should i also download Animated Leaderheads? what is that? and there is a map pack for BTS also?
oh and do i need to have the latest patch for vanilla if i have bts? sorry for all the questions :D
Deon Feb 01, 2008, 11:45 AM I suggest you to download, they are fun and there's a lot of work in them, because they were made original. Also the base "flat" leaderheads are not too good in the terms of quality for me =). Actually finally I made my own selection of leaderheads for TAM (almost all from animated pack and some from Frenchman's pack , I mean Hatshepsut, because I don't like the BTS original "mouse-like" Hatshesput :)).
Mediteran Feb 01, 2008, 01:01 PM where should i extract the maps? :)
Shqype Feb 01, 2008, 01:05 PM To the Public Maps folder (in the same directory as the Mods folder).
graywarden Feb 01, 2008, 01:09 PM where should i extract the maps? :)
one set in:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\PublicMaps
one set in:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\TAM
and if you are really paranoid like me, one set in:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\PublicMaps
Just to make sure....... haha
Shqype Feb 01, 2008, 06:59 PM I would recommend placing ALL Maps in the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\PublicMaps
