Wealth is the same as Gold?

Commerce is the base, which then divides into gold and science?

Does a market/bank in a city increase science output? I think no but just want to confirm.

Trade routes bring in commerce or gold?

What are the requisites for foreign trade routes?

Thanks

Commerce
Comes from Trade Routes, Tiles (Cottages, Sea tiles, etc.) and the Palace Building.
Is multiplied by Bureaucracy

Is divided into Gold, Science, Culture, and Espionage points

Gold
comes from Commerce, Specialists, some Buildings, building Wealth
multiplied by Banks, Markets, etc.

Science
comes from Commerce, Specialists, some Buildings, building Research
multiplied by Libraries, Academies, Monasteries, etc. and Free Religion

Culture
comes from Commerce, Specialists, some Buildings, Religion, Creative Trait, Building Culture
multiplied by Cathedrals, Free Speech, Broadcast Towers, Hermitage

Espionage
comes from Commerce, Specialists, some Buildings
multiplied by Castle, Intelligence Center, Scotland Yard, etc. and Nationalism

For a Foreign Trade Route
1. You must have a path (going across Roads/Railroads, Airports, Rivers+Coast if you have Sailing, Oceans if you have Astronomy) to the other city. The path may not go through territories you are at war with.

2. You must have Open Borders with that civ

3. If the other civ is NOT your Vassal and either you or them has Mercantilism, then no foreign trade routes

One related thing I was never sure on and never bothered to check;

Bureaucracy doesn't boost any Science or Gold you get from Specialists, right?

So when I'm running heavy specialists in my capital it really isn't giving me much of anything...

Yes. You can still benefit from Buero by making you capital a production powerhouse or by running hybrid (SE everywhere, but cottaging up the capital).

So banks do nothing for you if you run 100% science?

Banks (Markets, Groccers, Wall Streets, eerm...) boost gold (:gold:)

There are other possible sources of :gold: - Specialists (Merchants, Priests), Holy Shrines / Corporate headqurters.

With thoese sources it's possible to make a city (Typically Wall Street) turning in decent amounts of Gold even while running at 100% scinece.

In cities that do not have those surces of 'direct'-:gold: banks do nothing for you. You mighs still want to build some, to unlock the Wall Street.
