Or specialize until not everything is lost in the background noise.

There's more than one way to look at this. For instance, I just doubled my daily forum browsing area ( usually I hung out in Comp Talk ). Plus I have a feeling this will be a great way to keep up with latest tech news..

Part of the joy of OT is the mix of people and interests. Spreading them out into their own groups spoils it.
If I want to talk to scientists all day I can do it in the lab.
