This thread is for interesting things about science and technology that isn't large enough to warrant a full thread (IE something that won't garner more than 2-3 posts).

I very much doubt the guy is gonna be able to make a lot of them. Plus I would imagine the gov't wouldnt be happy about you having one if you live within 50 miles of an airport.

By the way that beam looks... I don't think the government would be happy about you having one period ;).

Also (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNvQGkzEwKc) something that would be pretty cool to have. And this one the gov't might just let you own!

Huge 6 pound smoke bomb.

Obviously, we will need to mass produce these to provoke panic among anti-video game legislation.

God... to bad they don't have a tutorial on how to make one. Also... anyone have any idea how you would make coloured smoke (like the firework smoke bombs)?

would coloured smoke come from adding metals into the reaction?

This guy (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Perepiteia&search=Search) has done something interesting. I'm no engineer, so I haven't a clue why this gadget is/isn't supposed to work.

But if you saw the movie "Primer", you'll get a shiver :)

Gene Therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (http://www.duchenne.nl/media/doc/nrg1003.pdf)

I didn't realise gene therapy was so advanced; I thought it was mostly still up in the clouds.

These are the ingredients: kno3 (Potassium)/sugar. (You can find kno3 on eBay)

dry mix your two ingredients thoroughly. throw them in a pot and add just enough water to make a gritty paste(it takes almost nothing) heat the mixture and stir until it starts to turn a dull yellow then take out and pour into your mold. The water you add will burn off in the heating process leaving only KNo3 and sugar and if it doesn't that's ok too...with this formula i can make a rock hard mold or a very thick putty type paste of propellant. (Quoted from person who made it)

To get color, I'm pretty sure you need colored dye, orange and blue works best. Just add the dye after the mixture of potassium and sugar turns yellow I think.

EDIT: OMG! Awesome!

Germans to blast fish into space

Something about zero-g experiments. In other news, "German Space-Fish Blast" would be a good name for a trendy mixed drink.
