Hello all.
I am playing Civ 4 for some time now but Im still a pretty bad player.
I have recently went from warlord to nobel and well...I pretty much suck.
I think there is some basic things thats I dont understand about the game.
The main this is trade routs and trade with the other civs.
For example: a civ wants to trade with my gold for silver while they give the same thing (if im correct) so why would I agree to the deal?
Does it have any affects exsept the good relitionship with the other civ?
P.S.
If any one knows a guild for players mainly about what to research first and where to build citys, i would be very glad to get a link.
Oh and one last thing: I would love to have a link to a post where I will be able to learn all the short cuts. I know that GP is great people but many words I just dont understand.

Well yes. If you have access to Gold, then 1 citizen in each of your cities will be made happy. More if you have certain buildings in place. If you have access to Gold and to Silver then 2 citizens in each city will be happy. Each happiness resource you have access to will make 1 citizen happy throughout all of your cities, so you're definetly better off making deals for them if you can. The same thing applies to health resources, like Cows or Fish etc., except you get health benefits instead of happiness.

I alwats thought that if I trade gold for silver then I "lose" my gold for 10 turns and "gain" silver for 10 turns. Is that true or when I will trade gold for silver, I will get the silver but still keep the gold!?

It depends on how much Gold you have. If you have hooked up two resources of gold you can give one away to someone for silver without penalty (since two or more gold gives the same benefit as one). So basically, if you have multiple amounts of any resource you may want to consider trading it for another resource or, if nobody else is willing to give away a resource or you won't get any benefits from more health/happy resources that you can get, you may want to exchange it for gold (not gold the resource, but gold as in money).

As long as you have more than one Gold you'll benefit from the trade. Having anything more than one of any resource doesn't do you any good, unless you're using it for a corporation. So you may as well trade it off if you can. And one benefit of trading that greenpeace didn't mention was that by making the trade, you're also improving relations with the other civ.
