Multiplayer,FFA (10 players):
Often in multiplayer people need rapid expansion to keep up with the rest of the top crowd in the game. But how do u deal with a close neighbor who is also expanding- threatening to settle the most fertile lands by you? Well, the answer is to jump him early. In multi everyone is not so careless however and even a Nub-hog can make a few archers to stop ur axmen in their track. So what do you do? Mass hordes of swords and axmen only to have 30% odds or less at taking archer city? or do you give up the war?
Keep in mind that time is not on your side when you wage war. The longer you war- the farther u get behind with the top players in the game who are making libraries and forges. Also, keep an eye on the support costs of you invading forces.
If you can take a city ,ofcourse do it, but often times u are stuck by the walls of "Constantinople" - with enemy making walls and archers. Without catapults it is almost imposible to take . So what you do is stop making army and EXPAND. Just beseige his city with ur men in forest or hills around it- blockign his expansion and sit it out till catapults.
The point is you have the minumal expense for war while denying enemy's expansion, and expanding yourself. When you get catapults- mak catapults and take enemy out.
This can be easily done with Mali, ZULU, MAYA, NATIVE AMERICANS, since they have resourseless unit which is better then their conterparts. Just declare war and block his city untill you catapults- which wil be way earlier then him, since you kept expanding.
