So I stop my workers from destroying things with "leave old improvements", but I've noticed that the AI does no such thing. As a result they are often having their workers turn towns into farms, only to immediately put a cottage... As well, I've seen then them change tiles with corn/wheat/rice farms into workshops, then put it back (in the mean time my deal with them gets canceled because they no longer "have" the resource). Is there anyway to stop the madness?? :crazyeye:

They also like to build forts on all of your metal mines and your plantations. It's a big pain but you just have to not automate them.

I don't know why Firaxis can't do a better job with this. Autoworkers have never worked properly in ANY civ version.

However, it's not a bad idea to put a fort on oil if you research Scientific Method before Combustion. Then you won't have to wait to build a well once you get Combustion. You'll have immediate access to oil. After you get a second source of oil and a well, you can come back and build your well.

I didnt think you could have a resource if you didnt know how to improve it?

The second you research combustion, your fort gives you the oil without waiting for a well to be built.

This bug has been there since Warlords. It will happen when your workers, too, if you don't tell them to leave old improvements. They'll spend the whole game turning farms into cottages, then immediately back into farms (or between windmill and cottage, on hills).

I consider it a serious flaw, since it cripples the AI workers. I've posted about it many times, and no one seems to care. It's either "oh, well", or "so play at a higher difficulty".

I'm going to be messing around with CvGameCoreDLL.dll, to see if I can fix a crash in one of my games, so maybe I'll try to fix worker behavior as well.

Long live the AI's idiocy in the use of workers ! Gives us humans a better chance of winning !

For quite a while after I got BTS I believed the statement from Firaxis that the worker AI was "much improved".

But after seeing them tear down farms to make cottages, and then the next worker comes along and reverses that, time after time, I decided the AI was a total idiot still.

So now I keep 1-3 on road building auto but all the rest I do manually - kind of a pain when you have 20+ workers, but at least they don't tear down your full grown cottages.
