I saw something about mercenaries in the wiki page. However i cant figure out how to hire them in the game. Any help welcomed.

Could you explain in more detail? I never heard of this.

not sure myself, but it appear one can hire unit by paying gold. i suppose its helpful if you want a unit quicky to defend something, or if you are ona wonder race or something and cant spare the turns for a warrior.
anyhow, its the icon next to the event log. no wonder i missed it, never used the event log before.
