View Full Version : How do I patch CIV under Leapord?
gsfgf Feb 14, 2008, 05:42 PM I just got a new Mac with Leopord and am trying to patch CIV. The patches still fail to install on Leapord. When I got my Macbook, I was able to copy my Civilization 4 folder from a mac running Tiger. It worked fine, but now I'm trying to copy the Civilization IV folder from the macbook to the mac pro and i get an error saying "The alias "Civilization IV" cannot be copied to the destination, perhaps becasue the destination does not support this type of alias"
Y'all have any ideas on how to copy the CIV IV folder or get the patch to work without having to copy the files by hand?
AlanH Feb 14, 2008, 06:04 PM It sound like you are trying to copy an alias instead of the real Civ4 folder.
Install the basic Civ4 software from DVD. Then copy the patch installer from its disk image to the desktop and then double click the desktop copy to upgrade your base installation.
gsfgf Feb 15, 2008, 01:42 AM I tried copying the installer to the desktop, but I get the same error. It says it cannot find an application to update, and when I manually go look for CIV, it is grayed out.
Thanks for the help,
Jeff
AlanH Feb 15, 2008, 02:25 AM Can you run Civ4 unpatched OK?
gsfgf Feb 15, 2008, 02:38 PM I figured it out. It says at the start that it will not install with the game dvd mounted, so I tried installing with the patch dmg unmounted (after I copied the installer to the Desktop) and it worked. Warlords worked fine, too. I am able to load G/WOTM, so all is well.
There is one last issue, though. The screen is shifted up about 5/8". The top of the tech bar, the civilopedia, and menu button are cut off and there is a black bar at the bottom of the screen. CIV makes me use 1280x960, instead of 1280x1024. Could that be the problem, and if so, how do I fix it?
Edit: the AI leaders do not show up. The eyebrows do, but nothing else. I am going to reinstall in case I broke anything while messing with this.
Thanks for all the help!
AlanH Feb 15, 2008, 02:48 PM Are you setting the screen config using the in-game Options panel, or the dialog that opens if you Command-launch the game software?
gsfgf Feb 15, 2008, 03:17 PM I am using the in-game options panel, but the Cmd dialog has the same options. I do have a tv hooked up as a mirrored display, but that worked fine on my old mac.
I went ahead and reinstalled (though i kept ~/Civilization IV/) and the behavior is the same.
AlanH Feb 15, 2008, 03:27 PM I always use the launch dialog. In fact I have the checkbox set so that it always comes up. I don't have the problem of the top of the window being hidden by the menu bar, but maybe that's because I normally use Window mode.
gsfgf Feb 15, 2008, 03:35 PM it's fine. I just needed to manually set my monitor's controls for the resolution. I forgot that I could only play under 1024x768 on my old box and my monitor had never done 1280x960 before.
Thanks again,
Jeff
Matthew5117 Mar 19, 2008, 10:42 AM What do you mean unmounting the patch because I am having the same problem?
