Any thoughts on the draft? The Rockets gambled by taking 7'5" Yao Ming out of China with the first pick, but it could pay off BIG time giving the lack of good centers in the NBA. The 2nd and 3rd picks were both solid: Jay Williams (Bulls) and Mike Dunleavy (Golden State). Also, the Knicks and Nuggets made a big trade: The Knicks drafted 6'10" forward Nene Hilario at #7, then sent him along with Marcus Camby and Mark Jackson to Denver in exchange for Antonio McDyess and pg Frank Williams, who was the #25 pick. I think the winner of this trade will depend on who stays healthy; McDyess and Camby have both been plagues with huge injury problems, but both can be great in healthy. McDyess is the better scorer of the two. Jackson is just about on his last legs and Nene won't be a player for at least 3-4 years, if ever.

The question can't be answered until next year...
But I am certain that Yao Ming will be garbage...
McDyess will be a monster in NY, but he is a quiet guy, and I don't know how he will work out there...

Yao Ming's hype reminds me a lot of that other towering twig from beyond the sunset, Shawn Bradley. So tall! So skilled! Wow, he'll change everything! In the end, just a good backup while your real center rests. I hope Ming is as good as they hope, for entertainment value, if nothing else. Whenever somebody is labeled as a 'project', tho, it's a nice way of saying he isn't good enough today.
With all the high school punks getting drafted, it's hard to say when a pick is good. Talent is certain, but he's still going to grow for a few years. Or your future wunderkind could turn out to be a walking talking (about himself) headache.
The top college picks were solid. The Bulls will still suck, but that will help them add another fine talent next draft. :p Then they'll get good again.
Why is anybody paying Mark Jackson to play basketball? At this point, should he not be paying the team to let him play? Lordy, he was a college star in the mid 80's !!!

Drew Gooden will be a pretty good, but Dan Dickau will open a few eyes up this year...
Caron Butler will be the rookie of the year though. That guy is EXPLOSIVE!
