My AI nicknames come in two varietes: cute/diminutive, and insulting. Insulting names are given to AIs who give me grief.

Gilgamesh -> Gilgy
Napoleon -> Nappy
Churchill -> Churchy
Elizabeth -> Liz
Frederick -> Freddy
Tokugawa -> Tokey. Also, "hahaha, you're gonna die"
Victoria -> Vicki/Tori
Hammurabi -> hammy/hamham/"beard dude"

Catherine -> crazy b***ch
Isabella -> Is a who**-a
Hatshepsut -> Hatshep-sl*t. (I know she's so nice...she's TOO nice...especially to my enemies.)
Huayna Capac -> Huayna Ca-blahblah. (Name too long.)
Montezuma -> monty/zuma/zuzu/"oh, you are so going to die you little @#$%($%*^#$..."
Peter -> "creepy 'stache guy"
Willem Van Orenje -> Orange F***er
Charlemagne -> Burger King
Asoka -> "That Indian Guy Who's Not Gandhi" (I pronounce his name differently each time I try, and my husband insists on calling him "Akosk", like it rhymes with "accost"...)
Mansa -> "I hate you. I will annihilate you utterly and completely, you frustrating, annoying, greedy-with-me-but-free-love-with-everyone-else tech trading who**." (In a really odd move in my current game, he randomly decided to offer to vassalize to me. He wasn't at war, I had very slightly more power, we weren't adjacent, and he had a tech lead with Construction and Paper. Which he still wouldn't trade me.)

Willem van Oranje - Marco Van Basten

Why not Johan Cryuf ?

Onagan
Mar 21, 2008, 01:21 PM
Because he doesn't look like El Salvador. San Marco would be a great leader, he would defend his cities with City Raider promoted units and build his stack with City Garrison promoted Settlers.

My nicknames for the BTS leaders:
Boudica - Boobs
Charlemagne - Karl (more likely his real name, as he spook a West Germanic language)
Darius I - Osama
De Gaulle - Goal
Gilgamesh - Giga
Hammurabi - Hammarby (and because of that, my sworn enemy)
Joao II - Cardinal
Justinian I - Justin [Timberlake]
Lincoln - Ape (from Abe)
Pacal II - Pascal
Pericles - Helmet
Sitting Bull - Chief
Suleiman - Sulei
Suryavarman - Suri
Zara Yaqob - Jacob

only Willem van Oranje, doesn't have a nickname because i never met him in a game, I don't want to bomb Amsterdam, burn Utecht, nuke The Hague and raze Rotterdam, It doesn't feel right. But it would be: Willempie

Joao became Joe a few games ago. Spent the day reading up on Portugal and working out how to put Grandola, Vila Morena and some decent fado onto the soundtrack (world music is my favourite, so much so I have iTunes arranged by country rather than genre) and then went for a game...and lost. Maybe I shouldn't have put my name down as Salazar.

Genghis for me is Gay Genghis from his rather...camp portrait and animation.

Gilgamesh...well, it's an injoke between me and my OH and what he knows about David Cameron, but let's just say that I read up on the legend and every time he comes up on-screen I ask him how the Tories are getting on winning the next election and where his next spliff is going to come from.

As for Victoria, she never survives long enough for me to have given her a name that suits who she is in this life (you'd never guess, and it's not pretty believe me) so even if I haven't got any units near her and she turns up, it's into the debug tools for some tanks even if it's 2000 BC.

I can't believe no-one has got the obvious nickname from Pericles's animations. He starts with the helmet on, and waves his arms around before moving it to the top of his head. If you interrupt his greeting, his helmet slides up off his head without his hands touching it. It's very Magneto, and that's what I call him.

Thank you very much for explaining, sorry for that, no bad intensions here.
...how do I call them in Europe? :crazyeye:

edit:
It is just we here in Eastern Europe grow up playing Indians and cowboys, never ever thinking that term Indian is something racist. Please PM me and explain how come it is racist, who said that and is that in law, sorry for my ignorance.

Bingo. Whenever Genghis or Kublai Kahn pops up to say hello I am compelled to yell at the screen, in Ricardo Montalban accent, "I'LL SEE YOU IN Hxxx, KIRK!!!!"

Sometimes I play as Admin in my games. (I only play single games.) It was first suggested by the game, and it sounds like a really cool name to me.

From what I've read, many Indians don't in the least mind being called Indians and actually prefer it because they dislike the word "native" in "Native American". I suppose one can't make everyone happy.

OK Well I sometimes do themed civilizations and name my leaders after them.
Balki of Meops (from the sitcom Perfect Strangers) - Ottomans
Rza of the Wu-Tang Clan - Chinese
Tony Soprano of Jersey - Rome
Sir Luscious of Stankonia - Khmer
Zach de la Rocha of the Gente de la Sol - Inca
[My first name] Marley of the Jahstifarians - Ethiopia

Sometimes I use different leaders / civs just so I can run with the theme more accurately. Ragnar with Jersey, because were the Dimeo crime family to be a civilization surely they would be aggressive / financial. I also write down various things from wikipedia pages on the theme to name my cities.

Other names, when not doing themes.

[My first name] Van Halen - Dutch
[My 3 initinals] - America (FDR)
[My first name] Nintentdo - Japanese
Mr. Miagi - Japanese
Singing Loon (my Indian name, it's a tradition in my family) of Native America.

I find doing themed civilizations is a lot more fun. I usually don't like using the default city names (America being an exception) and I also get sick of naming cities things like "Wine River" or "Desert Coast."

My friend has been Monty Zooma of the the Aztecs and Boudilcious of the Celts.

Does anyone else do "themed" civilizations? I think I might start a thread about this.

oh man. A lot of good ones here, especially the last few posts. Sydhe and the rest had me laughing and it literally hurt. I had my tonsils out almost a week ago and have said practically nothing in 5 days. To actually laugh rather than merely snort air out of my nose, really hurt!! Well done. :goodjob:

I love the Burger King name and anything that people come up with for Suryavarman is gold. There was a guy I knew in university with the name Saravan, so that's what I call him.

I don't go so far as to rename civs. Sometimes like to play as Canada using an American civ or I play as Imhotep (Ramses) or Xerxes (Persia), etc. I play a lot of HOF games, so I usually just add "of Orange" after their name.

The only one I really love doing is playing as Cyrus and then using the Cyrus character from Trailer Park Boys to give me the civ description: **** off, I got work to do" lol. Gotta love TPB.
