A question/suggestion.

Could the influance of military, especialy nearby make civilisations more likly to vassalise?
For example, if I stick 10 knights outside the Neatherlands and talk to them, or if England lands loads of redcoats in India...

Secondly could we get the granting independance button (which currently just makes civs independant) be used to create viceroys/vassals if you own cities in the core area of a dead civ?
For example, China invades the Khmer and can create a tributary state if they wish instead of having to rule it directly.

This would be historical (spains viceroys and most vassals, dominions and colonies used armies to instigate their rule) and would also be good for gameplay giving the player a choice between more control or reduced maintenance costs.

So what do you think?

I would have liked to do the independence thing, but it's a bit more complicated than it seems

oh, well thats a shame.

How about weighing vassalage more towards military, particularly nearby? Is that something you would consider?

I once already tweaked some values, to make vassallization easier. I made the master's power overstimated. I'm not sure if there is anything military-specific in the code. The power is an overall value

I have a quick question; can vassals ever break away from their master? If so, how and how do you monitor this ingame?

Overestimation, eh?
I recently saw a comment from a small civ (well, small compared to mine which was just below the domination limit) about not wanting to vassalize: "You're too powerful for us." Now that would make it easier to become my vassal, no? :)

"You're too powerful for us." follows other conditions (land and pop percent), not the power value. My changed affected "We're doing fine on our own" instead

Isn't the granting of independence already done in BTS? I think the problem with this not working in RFC is that eliminated civilizations are kept as existing because of the possibility for them to declare independence. Couldn't you alter the granting feature of BTS to work just like declaration of independence?

Hey Rhye could you answer my question? Or anyone for that matter...I've played the Vassal game for a while but I'm still not sure how vassals determine when they are free and what leads to this.

If they have more than 50% of your land, 50% of your pop and/or less than 50% of their innitial terretory.

My question is as their land and pop is added to yours for domination is it added for determining this too? (which would mean they would have to be larger than you + all other vassals)

That is my provinces idea!!! nevermind. Rhye, can you allow the human player to be a vassal of the AI it would be good for gameplay or for UHVs such as the Aztecs.

When I get a vassal is says uner my foriegn advisor that "this deal cannot be cancelled". Does this mean it can never be cancelled ever?

I like the idea of being able to vassalise, however we would be able to rebel right?

You cannot drop a vassal. But in soviet russia vassals drop you, if certain conditions are met

So can you ever end your capitalation of their civ? Or only they can declare independence?

Only they can declare independence. Same goes for peaceful vassals, though they get the option every so many turns, no matter the situation.
