This is the first game I've suffered from mass global warming. I thought, like in previous versions of Civ, I could do something to fix the problem, so I started mass buying every pollution decreasing building possible--even Nuclear Plants, risking that the chance for meltdown would be offset by the declination of pollution in ciites. I changed to environmentalism (even with several corps spammed throughout my cities) to get my lifespan increased. Nothing seemed to work, in fact, it got worse. The entire world is turning into a desert, and the AI's won't stop nuking each other.

Finally, I decide to shut down the game and come here to find out what variables slow GW...only to find out that nothing does, and I've spent 100,000 gold for nothing.

Very poorly handled in this version of civ. Very disappointing.

At least allow means for slowing it, cleaning it up, and doing something like the grassland-plains-desert or jungle/swamp-tundra thing.

Stupid. At least I'm the richest civ by a mile and could afford throwing away 100,000 gold, and I'll never have to worry about health problems again.

But I think now I'm obligated to cheat by opening WB and restoring all of the world's deserts to...plains.

I haven't launched a single nuke, or had one launched at me, but I have to watch the rest of the world's clowns nuke like there's no tomorrow (and in this version, there isn't).

Damn Hannibal, he got the whole thing rolling. Everyone possessed the knowledge of every tech for a century and no one bothers to build the Manhattan Project. Suddenly he loses a small amount of ground in a war with another AI and he decides to build it, and initiate mass nuking. I hate him. Jerk. Gandhi would never do that.

Gandhi would never do that.

THATS a lie, last time i played with him, he was the agressor in the nuke war. :)

Other than that, I agree. They use nukes like they were suicide cats, without even considering the consequences.

so entirely unlike real humans :)

GW from nukes is insanely unrealistic though, if it was that bad in real life the world would be a desert now
it starts after so few nukes being used too, in RL hundreds have been used in tests and they aren't even a major cause of GW

I actually recently posted a 'gripes' thread about GW too. It's totally and utterly moronic. There's basically nothing you can do, no amount of tree-hugging, forest preserves, and money spent do anything. Only fix is to play a mod where it's different. I actually am in the process right now of downloading the 'Wolfshanze' mod because it changes it so GW just puts fallout (which workers can scrub) on a random tile instead of turning it to desert. Don't know how well it will work but for that change alone I'm thinking it'll be pertty nice.

I think it's the concept that is handled worst in the game.

If global warming occurs, it shouldn't be dots of desert haphazardly appearing all over the place. That should be a rarer event than an existing desert spreading. Coastal tiles (including Ice) mght turn to water. Tundra might turn to plains/grassland. The existing model feels like a heavy-handed caution against nuclear weapons rather than a realistic portrayal of global warming.

Just turn it off.

Change to 0.

Makes nuclear wars much more fun :D
