I have played a dozen or so games of BTS, and had maybe 4 or 5 quests total;. On my current game, Noble, Epic speed, large map, I have already had 4 quests! I am currently on turn 500 (of 750), so there is still time for more perhaps? I got the stables, forges, colloseums and the greed quest to obtain copper. I had gotten the stable and colloseum quests before, but not in the same game. Anyone else have that many in one game?

Some quests can only be trigered with some conditions met - many require particular State Religions... So if all your games take a similar tech path - i.e. leaving you with the same religion/improvements/units every time, you might just not have many quests avaiable for you...

A standard quest is to be the first one that proves the world is round. It gives all your water units +1 movement.
(Portugal is a though opponent in this quest)

Is this actually a quest? I always rush for circumnavigation, but never got a quest for it. The +1 movement bonus occurs regardless.

In my present game, I'm just about to hit the age of rifles. I have gotten and completed the swordsmen quest, the library quest (and I had GL too), and the forges quest. If you count circumnavigation, I did that too.

Refar, I have no idea if I follow the same tech path or not. I play random civs and am not very good. I don't play one of those SE or CE kind of games. I don't play a particular style at all, just play how I feel at the time and how things flow. I was just curious as to how many quests others have had in a game. I did get the Praet quest the game I played as the Romans. It sucked though because I was on a continent all by myself and had no one to use them against.

Totibbs, I never considered the circumnavigate first a quest as that was in Civ long before quests and random events.

Not a quest.

I generally skip quests, as their effort outweighs the benefit, like planting a city on 5 land masses before you reach a certain age ... although, the most recent event I encountered was much more interesting. It had me conquer a city within 25 turns in order to promote my swordmen with cover, and since this city was an already potential target -- I conquered the city. These are quests I enjoy more, and rarely seem them.

I generally only see about 1-2 quests per game, but every now and then I'll get a third one.

Can't say I've seen many quests in my games. One every 3rd game or so and always "build that many of that to get that benefit" and I've never bothered, who'd want for example 7 triremes when A. You don't need them right now, B. When you will need them you will have optics and caravels, so it's alot of hammers wasted for a very small "benefit". But that was on normal speed. I've just upgraded myself to Epic speed so with the added turns, chances are probably higher for more quests/game and maybe some more use of the bonus from the quests. I just hope I get some quests that makes some kind of sense.

You don't need many. Just one is enough if it is the right one. Yesterday I played Darius with horse in my capital FC  . As if it is not enough, I received the "build war chariot" quest and of course I finished it, and all my immortals received a free combat I, so I can start with combat II, shock or medic I immortals. I quickly wiped out everybody on my continent and captured 3 capitals. :goodjob:

What is the library quest and the GL quest? I've never run into those. I sometimes get the Holy Mountain quest, but I never seem to find the d*%n thing even though the buildings are something I'm gonna do anyway

Are we talking random events or "quest" quests? I normally get about 15-20 random events per game (always seem to get the same ones, too -- I get the +2 :health: "herbalist" event nearly every game for some reason) but as for "build X number of buildings/units" quests they are quite rare, maybe only 1 per game if I'm lucky. Most often it's the quest to acquire a certain resource for a corporation I just founded...which I usually win the very next turn because I already own that resource.

One of my recent games I got the quest to build nine forges...except I was on a small, isolated continent with eight cities and NO ROOM to build a 9th city before Astronomy, which of course obsoleted the quest...I quit that game in frustration.

"Holy Mountain" is a real pain, but once I got lucky and the mountain turned out to be 3 tiles away from a barbarian city I had just captured! Only problem was, Huyana Cupac had just placed a city near the mountain too...but a few maces & catapults fixed that small detail. :mischief:

I also finally completed "The Blessed Sea" quest successfully, and chose the option of spreading Buddhism to 20 cities. This was followed by the "religion spread" music, repeating itself 20 times over. Dear GOD that was annoying...

I think we are talking "quest" quests here :) In marathon games I got usually 2-3 of them. At the current game I got one very early (libraries) and it was quite nice to get a free technology. I was going to build libraries anyway.....

As for events - I feel that they are quite boring after some time. In my last Inca game, my mine near my capital suffered at least 8 "accidents" during the whole game. I lost around 200 gold for that stupid reason :(

To make it more funny, every time I choose the option: rebuild it with putting extra attention to safety measures :]

In a standard game you need to build 7 libraries before ??? era. If you're successful the library in your best research city will have a bonus of 2 extra beakers per turn. If you also have built the GL you will receive a free scientist specialist (not expired if I remember correctly). I've run into this quest at least 5 times already.

Usually one- three, although sometimes I find that they are over a couple of turns after I qualify.

Except for blessed sea, I accept and enjoy them.

In all the dozens of games I've played, I have had a total of 2 quests. One Holy Mountain (the peak was on a one-tile mid-ocean island) and one Corporate Expansion - which was announced at the beginning of the final turn in which conquest victory was announced.
Quests ? What quests ?

I also find them to be rare.

It seems like I get either of the two corporation-based quests each time I have a game get to that point.

I love quests though, except for the Blessed Sea/Holy Mountain ones. I need to sit down sometime and figure out what settings I need to change to make them a little more frequent but not make them so frequent as to make them mundane.

Never had corporation or Holy Mountain or Blessed Sea. I got the swordsman challenge with no access to iron. I have gotten the stablemaster several times, but I never build more than two stables so it's a waste of hammers. Got the harbormaster twice --it's great if you have a lot of coastal cities.
