Saw something last night that surprised me a lot -- a Barbarian EastIndiaMan off my coast. What the heck is up with that ? Is this normal and have others of you seen it?

THe eastindiamen is diplayed as an barbarion look in the civolopedia. You can travel trough enemy terretory with the eastindiaman because it does not where an nation flag. The one you saw was from the Dutch. If you play as the Dutch check the ship again, when other civs see your ship they will see it is an barb to.

I just played as Mansa against the Dutch, their East Indiaman is NOT displayed as a barabrian. It's has the orange flag next to it.

Onlt privateers appear as Barbarians.

In my current game my caravel is being chased around the equator by a couple of barbarian carracks! Never seen them before. I have just installed JPK's events mod (very nice mod btw) so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I didn't read the full description of the mod because I didn't want to see spoilers for the events...

Okay, I'll play along. Which patch and is it deliberate or not?

I did create some random events for my mod (and the NextWar mod,) where Barbarians receive various naval units (including the East Indiaman and Carrack). This mod was not integrated with Bhruic's unofficial patch, so you must be running my mod in some way or other.

By the way, the event (and several others like it) may trigger against a given civ if that civ has a particularly small navy. Of course, once the barbarians ships spawn, there's no telling where they might sail off to.

Nope, just 3.13 and Bhruic's unofficial patch. I don't get it but I've seen it twice. No idea where that's coming from--where in the XML are the settings for what kinds of units the Barbarian can build. I'd like to see just how it's set.

Go back through your events history (CTRL+TAB) and if you see an announcement to the effect of: "The notorious Pirate [NAME] is attacking [CIVILIZATION NAME] shipping!", it's one of mine.

Did you put the events in your Custom Assets folder, by any chance?
