View Full Version : Most GG`s before 1AD?
cronullasharks Feb 27, 2008, 05:04 PM Bit of a brag but I broke my record today for GG`s and wondering about what you guys have done
5 GG`s by 150 AD......4 I produced and one was in a captured city
Settings were in my favour (large pangea , Cyrus , aggressive AI , immortal , epic)
No Great Wall and I was playing a proper game not just trying to farm them
The key was training up my immortals against barbs all the way to 10 xp....after that the AI could not compete.
I`m 6 turns from feudalism now and have Ivory...15 xp war elephants backed by 13 xp cats for a charismatic leader out the gate !
omglazers Feb 27, 2008, 05:23 PM Before a certain X time is kinda relative. I'm sure the Incas have tons of GGs early on, while the late to mid UUs have it at a later time.
Sorry to shoot you down, but i'm not impressed nor do I consider it a measure of skill or anything.
cronullasharks Feb 27, 2008, 05:37 PM No Worries.I agree its no great skill thats for sure.
But getting them early is way better than late cause you have a red hot army for the majority of the game giving you even better chances at more later on...a settled GG is useless in a vaccum its only as good as the troops it produces
Why the Incas by the way?
Ur_Vile_Wedge Feb 27, 2008, 05:43 PM The Inca UU is a supertough warrior. They can rush people from day 1.
cronullasharks Feb 27, 2008, 05:46 PM I dont reckon I could have done it with quechas though.
1. Not imperialistic
2. Without flanking 2 for the immortals I would not be able to sustain the almost constant fighting required.
3.Axemen
Shadzy19 Feb 28, 2008, 02:26 AM Try playing a always war game with augustus , large map pangea with agressive AI on , build the great wall , some praets for defence and just farm GG's , got 7 around 1AD and 27 total in my last game .
Edit : You cant really capture GG's can you? doesnt he die?

I think he meant settled Great Generals.
Supr49er Feb 28, 2008, 10:14 AM ... No Great Wall and I was playing a proper game not just trying to farm them...
How do you farm GGs?
col Feb 28, 2008, 10:27 AM Keep a nicel little enclave to spawn barbs so you can train up your troops. Then use them to finish off wounded foes.

I don't think you get GG points fighting barbs.
I know you can build privateers after researching chemistry and rack up GG points.
Catan_Settler Feb 28, 2008, 12:07 PM No, you don't get GG points for killing barbs. You do, however, get XP for your units by fighting barbs but that stops at 10xp. Anyways, that is a lot of generals to get so early... Were you able to capture (or build I guess.. doesn't sound like you did much building tho hehe) the Pyramids? With Representation you can even get some research out of those settled generals.
cronullasharks Feb 28, 2008, 04:33 PM Thats a cool idea with the pyramids , never considered it.
The only buildings I made were barracks , granary , library (for specialists.......no cottages) and the odd monument.
The most important thing was how I upgraded the immortals...flanking , strength and (very important) the one extra vision square and a medic in each stack...you have to really preserve the troops and you cant afford to attack then get eaten by axes the next go thus the vision upgrade
Must have is alphabet too or you just make useless treaties
mboettcher Feb 28, 2008, 05:11 PM With an imperialistic Rome and marathon game speed (yes I know its stacking the odds in my favor) I built oracle and took Iron working and went to war continuously until macemen and had 12 GG's by macemen times (I don't know what year it was though. prolly more like 5-7 GG's by 150 ad or so.) I made warlords out of most of my GG's because a lvl 15 praetorian army really makes a lot of GG points.
cronullasharks Feb 28, 2008, 05:16 PM mate thats just insane........no regrets not settling them? 24xp before barracks , stables , vassalage etc would be out of control
