View Full Version : Silent Hunter 3 or 4?
Maniacal Feb 29, 2008, 12:42 AM SH3 is only around $9.99 here now, but SH4 doesn't have starforce.
I'm wondering how many of the bugs in SH4 have been fixed and how stable the game is now?
If it's still buggy and no official or user made patching has been effective then I'll just buy SH3 (I already have Starforce anyways and so far it's behaved well).
Rheinmetall Feb 29, 2008, 06:40 AM I haven't had stability problems with the latest SH4, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd take SH3.
Darth_Pugwash Feb 29, 2008, 09:37 AM Silent Hunter 4 as of patch 1.4 is basically bug free and stable, with many good mods available for it. But of course the expansion (yes, there is an expansion, just released) will most likely change that.
Ubisoft don't use Starforce anymore, AFAIK, so if you buy a more recently published (ie made for the bargain bins) version of SH3 you should be in the clear.
On SH3 vs SH4: if all you want is a sub game, buy Silent Hunter 4. It is better. However, if you prefer the Atlantic campaign over the Pacific one, by all means go for Silent Hunter 3, as it is still a very good game.
Kozmos Feb 29, 2008, 10:22 AM I like SH3 more, something about german voice overs that makes the game made of win.
Alaaaaaaarm! *dives*
Rheinmetall Feb 29, 2008, 10:33 AM SH4 graphics are also very pretty, but if you want all the eye candy you need a relatively fast computer.
Maniacal Feb 29, 2008, 01:02 PM I pass the test on Ubisoft's site for both games so I can run it (Although, I guess they aren't multithreaded?).
I bought SH3 yesterday in a bargain bin at Superstore, although I'm considering taking it back (havn't opened it) as I remembered that Futureshop has the boxed version rather than a DVD case (which I assume has a manual, and it better damn well have a proper CD/DVD case).
I don't know if it has starforce or not, can't find anything about it, but it does have the label mentioning the copy protectino might screw with your disk readers.
Maniacal Mar 01, 2008, 01:46 AM Sorry for the double post, it's a bump. One thing I am wondering about is what does the regular cardboard box versio have in it? A manual? Proper CD case? etc.
Maniacal Feb 06, 2009, 09:31 PM Badump!
Well I after over 11 months I finally open the case :p Nothing inside, just the (rather pink O_o) DVD. No cd key either.
I wonder if it has Starforce, i was hoping to activiate it on Steam and download it ehre without starforce, but I need the CD key.
truckingpete Feb 07, 2009, 10:22 AM is silent hunter a pretty good game? it looks pretty cool, and its probably cheaper now.
Darth_Pugwash Feb 07, 2009, 03:26 PM SH3 & 4 are both good, but they require some patience to get the most out of.
