Elections
The Enlightened One rules with the wisdom of countless ages. It is with this wisdom that he/she shall lead us into the legends of history.

The Enlightened One is elected from the current philosophers in the faction. An election within the faction will commence to decide who shall be the Enlightened One. Anyone within the faction may nominate themselves or others for election.

Faction Positions
The Enlightened One has control of both faction policy and direction, as well as all Great People.
The Enlightened One appoints his trust, and major duties to the Followers of the Way.The Followers will be chosen strictly by the Enlightened One. There are four Ways to which the followers will be selected for. They go as follows.

Way of the People: The Follower taking this path has control over the capital city and the surrounding lands. That follower seeks what to have the city produce, as well allocating citizens to work the land of our cities. He shall also be in charge of dealing directly with the citizens by announcing faction decisions. [EDIT] Another sphere of control of this way is being our faction emmisary. Should we be elected, this Way shall deal with diplomacy between our faction and the others.


Way of the Fist: The follower taking this path has dominance over all our military might. He has the right to train our soldiers in whatever method need be, whether its to better navigate the hills, or better fight archers, amoung others. It is through this followers adherence to the Way that we will make our enemies armies tremble in fear.

Way of Pure Order: The follower taking this path shall have dominance over the law and order of our great nation. It shall be this followers privelege to write up our nations laws and to be the final word in the judicial realm. He shall run the Public Forum, where all breakers of the law shall find themselves.

Way of the Horizen Seeker: The follower of this path shall be in control of our exploratory forces. His mandate is to expand our knowledge of the percieved end of the world, and what lies beyond it.(With this said, any warrior or military unit chosen by the Way of the Fist follower to explore, is passed to the Horizen Seekers control) This follower is also given the right to negotiate and deal with foreign entities, effectively becoming a foreign diplomat.

The followers can be replaced at any time by the Enlightened One.
In event of the death of The Enlightened One, one of the Followers will be chosen by faction election to be the new leader.

Membership
All are welcome in the Philosophers of the Legion. Once joined, said patrons shall be known herewith as philosphers. They shall have the privelege of joining the Followers and The Enlightened One in discussion and alteration, of our faction. All ideas made by philosophers shall be taken more seriously amoung our numbers than those by a non faction member. The Followers have the right to appoint Apprentices. These Apprentices represent the philosophers amoung us who help enlighten and guide the Way the Follower has taken. Their job is to help their supporting Follower in any ways they need help. Apprentices will most likely be appointed to Follower status over philosophers.

Faction Vision
We exist, and we realize it. There is much to know about this world, but so much is still left unseen. We must explore far and wide, both in the world and our minds, so we can achieve a higher meaning the other tribes can only clamour for. It is our understanding of existance that gives us the Right of supremacy. It is by our nations thinkers and lovers, that we shall seize the passion of victory, and spread our influence wide. We can not idle by and watch as the rest of the world grows old on its own ignorance. We must stand up for justice and logic, and crush those who seek to defy our nations glory. For truely, to have understanding, but not the will to spread it, is the greatest crime imaginable.

This is all still a rough outline. Please feel free to critique as you see fit. Also note that this is not set in stone, and if anyone ends up joining, we can discuss all grievences you might have.

Now, we have a few people involved now with the faction, so I have some questions for you guys. Are there any changes you would like to make? Such as the leaderhead, the faction style, etc. I created this faction for the people, not for myself, so I wont block any good ideas my fellow Philosophers might have that would improve the faction.

I would like to see maybe a way that is specific to espionage and foreign policy. A. Understanding the world a guess that ties with the exploratory way, but also in developing international relations, espionage, alliance, etc etc. B. Understanding, getting info, networking with other factions.

The Horizen Walker is the Way that controls foriegn policy. As for espianoge, a good suggestion, but what Way should control it? In response to your other sentence:
A. you hit this on the nail my friend, to understand the world means to accept it as is and to deal with all in it in the manners we see fit
B. YES! you understand it well. The key to success is being informed, and listening to not just our faction, but to all the words of the public and other faction members. Coaltions will not be uncommon I would think, as two factions are more powerful than one.

Ok I understand better, Should espionage fall under the way of the horizon seeker. Because eventually we will discover the whole world. Perhap that way should change its role more to focus on discovery of whats going on in other countrys.

Perhaps the way of the people could take on the challenge of taking to other factions forming collitions.

Also are we subscribing ourselves to certain ways. Or is this a way to describe the differnt functions we want to give our faction?

When I envisioned this faction, I particularly had in mind an age evolution. This means the faction shall change and be altered according to the time period we are in. The Way could change completely if need be.

Coalitions I believe should be controlled by either the leader, or the faction as a whole. This is up to the faction of course.

I use the system of the Ways because it allows each member of a way to write up what they want to do in the game, instead of the leader having complete control.

I plan on holding inner elections for the Enlightened One soon.

Ok big question, who is in charge of science. The Tech path is huge, ie a big decision and power.

I think technology is all in the hands of the Philosophers. Everyone within our enlightened hall shall have equal say in what we believe is the best course of study. The discussions of course, shall be held privately.

sorry about that badrhon, it has been changed. and yes! the Way of the People controls workers but not settlers. Settlers shall find their place to settle based on the votes of all Philosophers. Though that Way will control the building of settlers.

Can you clarify the role of the Way of the Pure Order?

Their job is to manage the court system, which I advise having for non faction members. If we win, our faction will set up a court and the Follower of that Way will be the high judge persay. The Way of Pure Order will also be responsible for writing both in-faction laws, and demo game laws.

In that case, I think I'm interested in the Way the Pure Order.

No one yet has expressed interest in following that Way. Once a leader is officially chosen, I am sure you will find yourself walking the path of the Way of Pure Order.

They have control of all non-exploring military units. They also have the power to select any upgrade they wish. The Way of the Fist will see most of its power during a war, as the unit movements and attacks are totally up to you!

Churchill has informed me of his abscense for the next couple of days. So either I, or someone else, can take his responsibilities of making a military platform. If no interjects, I shall do it.

Well in the faction laws I'm still writing, I've made the following law.

2) In the absence of a Follower one of two things will happen. Either the Follower will give control of his station to an aforementioned apprentice, or shall give control of the Enlightened One. He can then give it to another member or keep the power.
a) In the event a Follower resigns, his post shall be reassigned by the Follower to a chosen heir, or in the absence of one, to a chosen member.

There is no apprentice Churchill named as an heir. This makes you in control.

Technically these laws aren't in action yet, but it a suggestion.

The Economy watcher - someone to visit homes and ask to them what they want to buy or sell, and where they work
The production Watcher - someone to watch all small busnes made at home, that makes our economy grow and ask them wich kind of material they need
The Trade Watcher - someone to watch the trade at all, who buys or sell more, and help to subizitiate the buyng to them

Then we could help our economy doing this

If we not, well we can start getting food and recruiting poor people, then we can get them to produce stone stuff for us that we sell and build another bakery and soon we will have an personal army

I am Seymoo, I have joined this factoin as it seems to best represent my views.

Are we alone in this world? Impossible, only a fool would think so, we may know nothing of our surroundings but that they a vast beyond our current understanding is certain, and such places cannot be empty. Who knows what our neighbours may be like, will they seek friendship, or will they seek our destruction. What should we do in the face of such uncertainty? Should we stay hidden where we are, surviving as we are, content, hoping that we are never found by those who have advanced and grown? Or do we seek to destroy our uncertainty, explore our rich and bountiful earth, discover both threats and opportunities, before they find us? There is no security without power, and there is no power without knowledge. We must seek to learn all we can of our world, and how to use it. Flint, and wood have been provided by our bountiful world, what else has it yet to yield? Who knows what Eden lies beyond the hills? Who knows what we are capable of?

So the TC is offering some sort of "out-reach" program to our factions, in case they win. I see this as noble gesture, and would like to offer the same to them. I say, let them have control over our 4th city. They will have the right to produce what they feel fit to produce for our nation. Any ideas or additions yo would all like to add?

So if I understand this correctly, we are in an alliance with 2 other factions. Doesn't that interfere with our visions?

As I understand it, one of the other factions in the coalition will take care of defending us (agressively) and another will take care of the religion.
This frees us in the capital to Philosphize.

The only disadvantage I see (and it's fairly minor) is that capital will not be a holy city, but you pretty much have to start with Mystism anyway to have a good chance at that.

Quite a nasty choice I'd say, found in place and forgo the fish needed for growth in the capital or move to the tile sugested and get the food but lose out on the Levee later.
The other I considered was where the warrior was located but that forgoes the pig as well.

Of these choices, I'd say found in the tile sugested (1 SE) for the pigs & fish.

I plan on settling either one south, or one southeast. Living between the three hills would help symbolize the Triad in its entirety. Moving to the cost would help us feed our people with fish, but would also allow me to build my palace overlooking the bluffs.

I w say SE, as I like the idea of a coastal city. Also, what will the capital's name be?

And besides we do not know what could lay beyond that silk, maybe another resource? we dont know. But of course if we move southwest we will have a shortage on food resources, leading to smaller population.

No, I am going to open public discussion for our peoples name. So, I doubt it will be Japanese.

So I'm going to start a poll in our forums and then 1 in public to get a good opinion if thats all right. Once that's complete, I think we should have an internal poll for our city's name.

I am of the opinion of SE. The two food resources would give our city great flexability, and slavery could allow us to turn food into production (though some may object to this technique). also 1 sw would put two jungle in our fat cross.

Living between the three hills would help symbolize the Triad in its entirety.

Lore wise I would say 1S because of the reason mentioned in the quote.

Gameplay wise, I would go for SE because of the fish and still have the river and hills in the fat cross.

We could have rolelplay significance to the tile between the three hills. We could say our coalition was made there and each of our factions get to name one hill. I just think se is the best spot, and lots of citys have significant things just outside of the city limits.

We can still name the hills and just build a cottage between them or something.

Assuming the city site chosen has the Pigs with the CR (such as 1 SE), I think we should beeline to AD to work them ASAP. It should work out pretty nicely, build the work boat first and then either a worker or scout (and then the other).

This is a copy of what I have written in my thread "URGENT!-Civil unrest", on the private forum, in case if like me you do not look at it all that much anymore due to lack of activity. Apologies to all those who read this twice.
There has recently been a lot of ill-feeling amongst some of the non-triad players and it is all well and good just putting it down to sour grapes and old players trying to keep the demogame going as a traditional one, but I think the latest threads in the CFC polls show that this isn't just isolated players. Even I, a member of the Philosophers, feel as if most decisions are taken away from my eyes.

Whatever happened to our noble plan of independent apprentices, and fora for each of the ways? Perhaps they would not alleviate the discontent, but it would make me feel a lot more capable of defending our position. I feel somehting should be done on the matter, and sooner rather than later. Are all of the principal ways still playing? I have seen very little activity from some of them.

Sorry for lurking but, rex left because he wanted to be on a neutral stand point when he began his CNN.

I have not paid attention since the first 10 turns of the game. The cattiness of all the other factions really turned me off. Even though I read everything regarding the game on both the public and private forums, I still had no clue what my role was. I voted in a few polls, but it seemed like once the game started and the first city started, the game blasted off leaving the other factions feeling that our faction was completely in charge with little opportunity to give feedback. There was no roleplay aspect that I saw from anyone. A few people took charge, a few more people . .. .. .. .. .ed about us being in charge, and everyone else was left wondering what was going on.

Ya, there has been a lot of miscommunication, and you are correct we need all around better communication.

What things would you guys like to see run differnt.

I personally think we should move more of our discussion back to CFC forum, rather then our own forum.

Also I would like to see open science voting. too.

I am OK with an opinion poll on science tech path. But it is an opinion vote not a decision vote. If vote is divided, then we should keep with our plans. If it is obvious that we are in the minority of the vote we need to look at what we are thinking and maybe change the plans. We have to make sure things are cordinated, so out builds and stance to war need to match our techs.

A thread for those who are unable to load up the save to ask questions about the game.

2) Generalized Military, Culture, and Science threads.

Long-term strategic threads used for the primary planning of Culture, Military, and Science. Citizens can refer to these threads for the overall picture.

3) Cartographer office

Just a database of pictures taken in the game (preferably with the date).

What happened to our plea for "Open Border" with Spain? I have heard nothing of it in reply. I think we need a more effective way of getting out the verdict on a series of Legion decisions.

My foriegn affairs minister hasn't told me anything yet

One of the plans bandied about on the private forum was a thread for each way, where he could recruit apprentices and discuss the running of his area of concern. It would also make it clear to all who is in charge of what, would serve as a route through which citizens could bring there concerns to the person making the decision and a place where they could announce plans for the next turnset.

Also I offer my own thread of "the rostrum" (although I did prattle on for far longer than I meant to in the two posts so far), or a similiar idea as a thread in which to make important announcements in RP.

My foriegn affairs minister hasn't told me anything yet

I have been doing other things and ya I kinda got bored.

I need to announce that I will be leaving the Philospher's Legion at this point. I have enjoyed my time here and the conversations we have had and have been proud to be a member of this faction. I feel you have done a good job welcoming and getting new members involved in the game and despiste the critisisms ran a good and fair game. This also means I will be resigning from my position as follower of the way of the spoken word, I would like to nominate Seymoo for the position if he wants it as he expressed interest before.
