Poverty's Pub Guild

We are a guild of reason and moral judgment. We're just a bunch of average Joe's looking out for the neighborhood, rather then a few elitist who are looking to hold the high power. We are by no means a political faction, nor will force anyone to vote a certain way, but at times we do throw our general support to a political leader or faction. At the moment our political agenda is not clear, but it will reflect all of which you will further read.

Objectives
To better our society and create a tight-knit neighborhood.
To increase any social events and role play.
To ensure that government officials do not become corrupt or bear a one track mind.
To ensure that all decisions are made with reason and intellect.
However, most importantly, To Establish a place for social gathering.

Gaining Membership
Membership is open to all, however can be subject to the other members discretion. Since all decisions made by the guild are democratic in nature, there is no one leader or higher power. Once you join the guild, you have just as much a say as everyone else. Guild members may also choose to be hidden (their involvement will be kept hidden to the public) at their request. To gain membership simply post in this forum.


Membership
Once membership is gained guild members have an equal say as everyone else. There are know real requirements to maintain membership, however from time to time guild members will be called upon by others to do certain tasks, and where these tasks are not required, they do prove your allegiance to the guild. Remember we run based on a certain trust and friendship, and this comes before anything. A guild member can only be kicked out of the guild for breaking any of the tenets, or by an 80% majority vote, at which point his membership is suspended, but never fully revoked. Reinstatement of membership can occur by a 67% vote after one full week of suspension. (Reinstatement votes can be carried out once a week there after.)


Tenets
1) No guild member may do anything to damage another guild member in any way.
2) No guild member may bring shame to the guild's name.
3) Although the guild member must value the importance of our nation, he must put his guild first, however must have the courage to speak up when he truly believes the guild is wrong.
4) No guild member may do anything to damage the reputation or well being of the guild.

Welcome to the guild. I decided to sit out on the rules discussion and just lurk, as I'm really only good for making traditional rules.Didn't really join a faction because they all basically stand for the same things, none of which I agree on (plus I failed as our Term 1 leader last game.) :lol:

Oh CivGeneral there is definitely room for a bounty hunter. Pubs such as our employ services such as yours rather often. After joining I'd like to talk privately about your, er', business *wink*

I'm still going to be shopping around. I'm still independent/unaffiliated at this point.

Keep in mind that you can be in as many guilds as you want, but guilds cannot take over the government. You are only restricted to 1 faction at a time.

This guild is a place for the locals to drink their problems away and socialize, with the occasional bar fight or two. As a political/social group, however, it serves to organize as well as better the social interaction between citizens, by enhancing the role play experience.

Well basically what's happening right now is our tribe has decided to settle in one place, and lay out a set of rules of how we shall operate. At first, one elder of the tribe suggested a certain way of governing, but many other members disagreed and proposed their own ideas. Soon enough factions began to form, groups of members who agree on one way of governing. In order to finally end this debate we have decided to elect a faction to power, and the faction that wins will choose our governing ruleset.

I have started construction on the pub, as you can see I just finished putting up the sign in the window (1st post.)

The Prime Election Debate (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=267277) is now being hosted by the guild. It is a place for the running factions to further voice their opinions as well as citizens to get answers. Invitations have already been sent out to all the factions.

I also need a co-moderator to help me moderate it, so any guild member may apply.

I guess polls will be up tuesday, and some debate may start now, but we just voted our new leader, Warlord NZL, so we cannot make any statements yet.

The guild has not congregated to discuss this current election, however in future elections we plan to do so.

Sub forums for the pub and other guilds would help make these "places" an interesting RP experience, but I can't wait to share virtual beers once we start getting into making some of the harder decisions.

You have paid the construction and legal fees even though your building has been constructed for ages. The best I can do is refund the 500 Y of construction costs and your stockpiles from before the new system should last 2 turnchats. From then on it will take wheat manufactured for beer, wine manufactered for wine and rice manufactured for hard liquor.

Sorry the refund still stands. I was only speaking of resources needed to sell your drinks. After doing a little research on beer making I realized there are many abundant resources to make beer from, heck people do it in there basements.

You have two turnchats for someone to start a company making beer before you run out of stocks :)

Manufacturing is an expensive business venture and will take a players full assets this early in the RPG. Starting bonus + borrowing power = a little over 2000 Y. You would make just enough after the loans grace period and signature loan to keep afloat. Either waiting a few TC's or gaining a business partner are also both options.

Ice if you want i could join in partnership, since i own a copper mine i am planning to open a construction industry which doesn't need money to start up, therefore together we have enough to start a manfacturing company. Interested?

I am concerned though, because with so few people in the economy, it is going to be very hard to maintain one. Think about it. The economy will be non-existant without buyers. In ordr for there to be buyers there must be resellers. In order for there to be resellers, there must be manufacturers. A manufacturer costs a lot of money to start up, plus you need a resource or land grant. Very few manufacturers will start up, and therefore there will only be a very limited number of businesses to create.

In order to solve this problem, I propose the following:
A reseller may order from either a privately owned manufacturer, or a state owned manufacturer. Privately owned are the ones started by citizens, while state owned is operated by the bank, which takes a % (or tax) out of all profits made by that business each turnchat. Not only does this allow resellers to exist without private manufacturers, but it also allows the bank to control inflation, as private owned manufacturers will have to price their products reasonably so it is worth it to buy from them rather than the state.

@Joe Harker Yes I am interested. I also plan on setting up another business which might help yours. Right now its in the thread that is asking for citizens for a business venture.

I have a solution to the problem though it will require ammending the rules. If you own a resource you do not need to start a manufacturing company, just a resalers business. However if you combine multiple resources for items or do not own the resource yourself you must have a manufacturing company. This will significantly reduce the start up costs of getting items to the market. Your idea is great ice, however I want to avoid adding any thing new to the game like state run companies.

I think your overcomplicating my idea. State run companies was just a word for role play purposes. You wouldnt have to make a new company for each product. You would simply tax all business that do not buy from manufacturers a certain percentage.

Let us wait and see how it works out for the first or second TC's. If we need to add, remove or adjust a rule after that we can ammend the Rules. I don't want to overcompensate if we don't have too, Sound fair?

You mean the one against the US, brilliantly taken by Sibon? Well, that wasn't the end of our luck, against Japan, who were already knocked out of the tournament, we were at 0-0 for a long time, and we had to win and the US had to lose against Nigeria. The US was 2-1 behind. In the last couple of minutes, we got a penalty (for nothing), while the US managed to hit the bar against Nigeria.

I'm not so sure about the Cycling. Vos was tipped to win the road race, but ended 6th :( And Theo Bos hasn't been in his best form lately.

About Liverpool, at least they will play European football this year. That isn't even true for Feyenoord :(

How are all of you enjoying the Olympics thus far? The Dutch aren't really doing great so far, but at least the soccer team is still in the tournament (with a lot of luck).


Hmmmm.. define enjoy. :) I have been rooting for my native USA, and Denmark, along with Ireland when I see them.

Mostly happy with Denmark in Swimming. [pissed] at USA for Soccer and such. As for Ireland, haven't seen 'em often.

I am in hopes Phelps wins all 8 gold medals he set out to get. He is 5 for 5 so far.
