View Full Version : Is EU3 differrent/better than EU2?
Kyriakos Mar 02, 2008, 09:04 AM Also, is there any converter for it so as to continue the game in Victoria Revolutions?
And, finally, is there any way at all to control Greece at the game?
Red Door Mar 02, 2008, 09:14 AM I like EU2 better, but that's just me.
D'Artagnan59 Mar 02, 2008, 09:46 AM For your second question, there's one in development/developed on the Paradox Interactive forums.
Luckymoose Mar 03, 2008, 06:25 PM You can play any nation in the game.
ArmOrAttAk Mar 04, 2008, 06:33 AM EU3 is definitely NOT better than EU2.
Alter Ego Mar 07, 2008, 08:24 AM People who say they prefer EU2 usually don't prefer vanilla EU2 to vanilla EU3, but fully-patched, fully-modded EU2 to vanilla EU3. Vanilla EU3 is a lot more stable, a lot less buggy, all in all more playable than vanilla EU2. However, EU2 has the advantage of having been patched and modded for 6-7 years. When EU3 reaches the same age, I have no doubt it will compare very well to the EU2 of now - in fact, in my opinion it's already much better. Check out some of the mods for EU3 like Magna Mundi.
By the way, Paradox just announced a new expansion for EU3 which seems to address most of the criticism:
New York, USA (March 6, 2008) – Paradox Interactive announced today a new expansion for critically acclaimed Europa Universalis III.
EU III - In Nomine (requires Napoleon's Ambition) is scheduled for a release before summer and fans of the series and strategy games can discuss the game further with more than 90,000 other gamer on the Paradox Forums.
"The idea for this expansion was born on our forums, said Producer and Head of the Paradox development team Johan Andersson". "In this case we felt that the forum wishes for the next EU III expansion was aligned with our visions for Europa Universalis III and we are really excited to launch this product".
Features include:
Start in October 1399 and the coronation of Henry IV of England. Experience over 50 more years of gameplay, experiencing the Byzantine Empire, Tamerlane and the end of the Hundred Years War.
Better overview of the decisions needed to shape the future of your country. Strive to create Great Britain, Make Paris worth a Mass, or institute an East Indian Trade Company. Act, rather than react, and implement decisions on both country and province level, with the new decision system, including hundreds of different decisions depending on situation.
Experience the new Mission System, where the player and AI alike will be given goals to achieve, providing endless replayability by guiding history along different tracks every time.
Rebels with a Cause. There are countless types of rebels, all with different goals, and different abilities. You may get colonial rebels in your colonies determined to get representation or independence, you may get reactionary nobles rising up to put the serfs back where the belong. Crush them by force, or negotiate with them, or even worse, watch them enforce their demands on your country.
Religious tolerance now depends on the ideas and decisions you take, making it a new layer of strategy. As cardinals stay loyal longer, the power of the Papa Controller has grown, as he can now excommunicate rulers, and call crusades against infidels.
Revised AI, focusing on strategic top level goals, with support for fully scriptable logics.

Peck of Arabia Mar 11, 2008, 05:00 AM I didn't like EU3, but that's largely because it ran too slow and I'm impatient. Many of the new features I'm rather fond of, even if it could do with a few more historical events
I know it's fussy but in EU2 the days flicked by several in a second wheras in EU3 it took a couple of seconds to get through a day on the highest speed setting- it soon adds up when there's 300 years to get through!
Maniacal Mar 11, 2008, 05:18 AM Not with a Quad Core, I get several days passing by in a second. WAY too fast!
Chukchi Husky Mar 11, 2008, 05:33 PM Will Europa Universalis 3 be re-released with the expansions?
ComradeDavo Mar 12, 2008, 07:23 AM Will Europa Universalis 3 be re-released with the expansions?
I got the game itself from amazon marketplace, and the expansion I downloaded from Gamersgate. Gamersgate seems to be their preffered method of releasing expansions.
And, finally, is there any way at all to control Greece at the game?
One of it's main selling points is that you can start the game at any point during the 300 years and choose any nation. So you could choose to start it at a point where Greece is doing well and lay as them.
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 12, 2008, 03:58 PM Davo: I assume you got the game working properly in the end? :)
I prefer EU2 myself, but I do enjoy EU3. I think Paradox still need to fine-tune their new 3D-engine thingy, but I trust they'll do it. I'm still looking forward to Rome.
Peck of Arabia Mar 13, 2008, 04:30 AM I dunno, Rome seems a little too... alien, not to mention one sided, for a paradox game.
Of course I'll watch to see how it goes, it just seems to out of place for me

I did....but then I got Victoria so i've been a bit distracted with that:lol: Will go back to EU3 for a game upon completion of my first attempt at Victoria! My first try with EU3 ended with me ignoring inflation and thus falling way behind everyone else:lol:

ComradeDavo Mar 13, 2008, 10:26 AM How do you buy things on Gamersgate?
You sign up for an account, then you can buy things via paypal using your card, I don't think it asks you to make a paypal account.
Chukchi Husky Mar 13, 2008, 11:17 AM I already made an account. How do I find out how much it will cost (everything is in €), and how do I use paypal?

Well you pay in euro's, so use an online currency converter. When you go to purchase soemthing it gives you an option for either using a credit card or paypal to pay.
