View Full Version : If I'm a moron tell me I'm a moron!

Okay, this is the third time I've asked. I want to know if it's possible to put effects from buildings, tech, and such into the terrain schema so that I could make terrain and improvements do things such as give extra science, help to heal untis, etc., and how to do it.
Every time I have asked I have gotten absolutely nothing in response. Last time this happened when I needed help and I posted the improvementinfo text I wasn't looking and missed a few crucial words that were causing my problem. Basically, it was an idiot mistake.
Now, if I'm making that same kind of mistake again, and this idea of mine is not possible, someone please tell me so I'm not feeling 1) What the heck should I do? 2) I have no idea what I'm doing is right or not, and 3) the community is blowing me off.
As I said, if I'm a moron I have the right to know if I'm a moron. I just want to have fun with my mod creations, and I can't do that if I encounter a dozen errors for every letter I add, change, or take away, because no one feels like helping me.

Maybe a better title for the thread and ask if this requires an SDK change in that subforum. Adding some new tags to the improvements in XML might do the trick, but I don't know anything about SDK/python.

A response! A satirical title does help!

Ok, well, I thought that might be the issue, but I was hoping it wasn't.
Anyone know how to do this, or if a mod has already been made on this.

To the best of my knowledge this hasn't been done before. I've seen new taglines added before so this might not be hard for someone with the right ability.

As Woodelf said, this should be doable via the SDK. Kael wrote a tutorial on adding new tags and making them do something. This shouldn't be too difficult since the effects are already coded, but for buildings, and you just want to add them to terrain.

By the way, is your thread question rhetorical, or are you really looking for an answer? :p

Thank you for your help. And, if you really want to answer the title you may, because I have a good sense of humor otherwise I would not have titled this thread as such.
Can you give me a link to the tutorial, and perhaps any experience you or anybody else might have with something like this? I've also heard about a fort mod someone made that seems similar. I need to check that out.
If anyone has read my previous threads, what I'm trying to do is to make what I call 'Townships', which are essentually like mini-cities, provide various effects, maybe even produce buildings and units, but I'm still learning how to set everything up. I only recently learned ow to add new improvements without a dozen error messages popping up.
