View Full Version : How to install BUG mod with RoM?

The title says it all.

I have BUG installed in ...My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets but it doesn't load with RoM.

A merge of the two is most likely a painful process.

Can an install as a Module within Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Assets be used?

I've been looking for something like DyP/RaR for Civ4. It seems I finally found it. But I also very much like the conveniences provided by BUG.

Because both mods have python changes it's not possible to use use python custom assets or python mod as a module. Python files have to be merged from both mods and that's one "painful" operation.

What kind of features you like in BUG? I could check if it's "easy" to combine those features to RoM.

Thanks for the positive response. Please forgive me if some of this is already implemented, I don't have the game running right now. And some of it may be on the list for 2.0.

There are really useful
Attitude Icons (by Porges)
Unit Promotion and Action indicators (from PLE by 12Monkey)
Great Person Progress Bar (by Impaler[WrG], modified in BUG)
Not Just Another Game Clock (by TheLopez)
Unit Renaming (by ruff_hi)
Civ4lerts and MoreCiv4lerts (by Dr. Elmer Jiggles, edited heavily in BUG)

Wide Citybar (by asioasioasio) is a bt more in the optional category.

There are a lot of other parts I don't really know what do exactly, but that I probably use anyway, e.g. modified advisors. Extended Color Table (by SimCutie) falls into that category as well.

They claim that Plot List Enhancements (by 12monkeys) is included, but it doesn't appear as it did in vanilla Civ. Perhaps it has a functionality I'm unaware of. I liked the display options it gave me in vanilla Civ.

kthx

Attitude icons, Unit Promotion and Action indicators, Wide citybar I've already included to 2.0. Civ4lerts is there too but not fully merged yet. I had Not Just Another Game Clock in earlier versions but left it out when BtS 3.13 included some of very similar features. I like how the PLE addition works now, makes it lot easier to see what each unit is set to do. I'll check that Great person bar and unit renaming.. see if those are easy to combine too. :)

Sounds like I want to get my hands on 2.0. Do you need testers?
Be warned, though. I don't have all that much playing time, so I may be a bit slow in giving feedabck.

While I'm at it: I also like to play with JKP1187's EVENTS (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=251885) to get more variety. I'm sure they can provide you with inspiration for more events in RoM.

So do I and I merged it with RoM.

There are 7 files that have to be merged/copied to use JKP's event mod w/ RoM.

1. Keep the RoM version of Civ4PromotionsInfo.xml unmodified.
2. Copy the Civ4Game_Text_Events_BTS.xml from JKP's mod to the corresponding location in RoM.
3. Copy the Civ4EventSchema.xml from JKP's mod to the corresponding location in RoM
4. Copy and overwrite the 4 Merged files in the attachment to their correct location in the RoM mod.

I altered JKP's Napalm event to award RoM's Napalm promotion instead of Barrage II. This is the only change I made to JKP's events.

Thanks a lot.

Which version of JKP's events should I use? He updates quite often at times, and the latest seems to be 1.21

0100010, one of the files in your zip is CIV4EventInfos.xml.original
Should that have been CIV4EventInfos.xml ?

must have zip the wrong file. if its says original I doubt its the merged one.

Well, can you supply the correct file, please?

I re-uploaded the attachment with the correct files in my prior post.

It doesn't work for me. The game crashes when I try to load or start a game. Not sure why, but I'm not going to spend hours checking it out. The only obvious thing is that the file in the Text directory doesn't match the naming style of the other files there. But none of the existing files seem to contain event texts.

IDW is on top of my list for the coming update of my Add-On. Now that Zappara has released a beta of RoM2.0 I will wait a while till any important issues are addressed.
