The map is now included in the Map Pack Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=8844). Should you really want it, I will add it again.

View Full Version : Alfheim: Elves at War Rex rgis of Ter Mar 06, 2008, 07:59 PM The map is now included in the Map Pack Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=8844). Should you really want it, I will add it again. Ozbenno Mar 06, 2008, 09:37 PM Loaded it up and played twice. Suggest you might want to change the starting units for the Ljosofar as both times, I've been wiped out by a lizardman (on turns 10 and 12). Not starting with a warrior means you're defenceless against the lizard, even if you leave one scout at home (which I did second time around). Rex rgis of Ter Mar 06, 2008, 09:40 PM What difficulty were you playing? I'll try and fix it. Ozbenno Mar 06, 2008, 09:46 PM I think I was only playing at Prince actually (maybe Monarch). Rex rgis of Ter Mar 06, 2008, 09:48 PM That's funny. I playtested them on Monarch and I got a worker and 4 warriors before the first lizzie. Anyway, I updated the map Ljosalfar starting units changed Danalin's Grove area removed Fur added in Faunheed area Mesix Mar 07, 2008, 08:08 AM I downloaded and will give it a try tonight. I like the name. Someone else must be a fan of Mystara (aka classic D&D Known World). xienwolf Mar 07, 2008, 08:16 AM Or the online Comic :) DharmaMcLaren Mar 07, 2008, 10:42 AM Or Norse mythology, in which "Álfheimr" or "Alfheim" is "Elf-home", the land of the elves (compare to "Elfhame") which is also where the names for the two races of elves come from - Ljosalfar = light elves ("álfar" being the plural of "álfr", an elf, in Old Norse, and "ljós" meaning "light"); and Svartalfar = dark elves ("svart" meaning "dark" + "álfar"). Mesix Mar 07, 2008, 12:53 PM I played through a couple of times as the Ljosalfar. The first time through, I was about tied with the dark elves. I got about half way through the game when the blight killed almost all of my resources (a bit overpowered). Frustrated, I decided to start over, and played much more aggressive the second time through. I ended up with a conquest victory on turn 164! I took out all of her cities with hunters! Overall, I really enjoyed this scenario. It was a quick play, and the resources were divided up nicely. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 07, 2008, 03:39 PM I'm glad you liked it. I've actually never played D&D, it's based on the Norse mythological world. The game is supposed to be very quick, I got a conquest victory on turn 104 (Monarch). Fauns and hunters are very powerful. Is anyone having problems with barbs? Demus Mar 08, 2008, 05:07 AM i wasn't, (they can be tough, but the moment you get hunters, they're just free cities). Playing as the Ljos, the Svalts def. had problems with them, since i got a conquest victory in turn 130 without ever taking down a single svalt city (orthus did it all for me)! One thing i noticed though: the Ljos are set on monarch instead of noble. If you're playing the good elves, that's no problem, but playing the svalts the Ljos (AI) is still on monarch, instead of noble! Rex rgis of Ter Mar 08, 2008, 11:07 AM Updated Version. Goodie huts added, for Svartalfar help and barbarian problems Ljosalfar difficulty changed from Monarch to Noble Rex rgis of Ter Mar 08, 2008, 01:31 PM I'm bored again, so I think I'll make another map. I want it to be less than standard size, but not as quick as this map. Any suggestions? Right now I'm toying with... Malakim/Sidar/Calabim (Desert War with Sidar hidden in a grassy crag) Sheaim vs. Elohim (Monk Wars! Race to control the unique features) Luchruip (2 leaders) & Khazak (2 leaders) (land of dwarves) Balseraphs/Hippus/Lanun/Grigori (Falamar's pedia entry) Malakim/Elohim vs. Svartalfar/Sidar (Council war) Which would you like? julko Mar 08, 2008, 02:40 PM From these ones I like the first option. But to be honest, I'm looking forward to some demon hunting:). So something like Malakim, Bannor against Hyborem, Sheaim and Clan?;) Rex rgis of Ter Mar 08, 2008, 03:30 PM Another option would be a map with half being hell with a powerful Hyborem (with Sheaim vassal), and the Elohim, Bannor, and Malakim fighting against him. DharmaMcLaren Mar 09, 2008, 11:01 AM It would be nicce if the Elohim had the border with Hyborem, with a ridge of mountains with some passes separating Hell and the rest of the world. JDexter Mar 10, 2008, 11:39 AM Didn't have a chance to download and play the map yet, but I love the idea of smaller scale maps. My PC is too slow for the huge Erebus maps that came first. For another scenario I'd also enjoy some good vs. evil demon style theme. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 11, 2008, 09:31 PM So this weekend I'm going to finish up my maps and (hopefully) release them. If not the weekend, I have no school next week. The Scheduled maps are Hell and Heaven-Elohim, Bannor against he Sheaim and Infernals. The infernals start with twice the cities of any other civilization. Mountains of Esus- A complex and mazelike mountin range with the Sidar, Svartalfar, Khazak, and Luchurip, with exploration is very difficult Shining Desert- Malakim vs. Calabim, with lots of Barbarians and floodplains Caost of Amur- Amurites on the coast, with Lanun archipelago, and Doviello to the west When the new patch is released I'll probably make a winter theme, to explore new features, like Winterborn and kidnap. Verdian Mar 13, 2008, 01:04 AM Those sound like fun, especially the Hell and Heaven one. I love fighting the Infernals as the Elohim, but the AI is so unreliable in creating them. Shub-Felty Mar 13, 2008, 04:23 PM I enjoyed it. Managed to get a conquest victory around turn 100, so it was a little too quick for my likings, but still enjoyable. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 13, 2008, 04:42 PM It is very quick, and I'm looking into extending it a bit. Exsepct a new version before the end of next week, with new areas. Until then I advocate playing after victory, exploring the map. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 14, 2008, 04:44 PM Seeing as .31 will be out soon, I'm just gonna wait till then to release the maps. Until then, I'm tweaking the Alfheim map for lore purposes, and balance. Mesix Mar 16, 2008, 07:26 AM I got excited prematurely. I was hoping that you had maps available for 0.30. It would give me something to do until 0.31 comes out. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 21, 2008, 01:50 PM So I just finished my first map for .31. It's called Mulcarn's Waste and has 5 civilizations. The Luchurip, Svartalfar, Amurites, Doviello, and Illians. The map is divided into two sections by a mountain range, Mulcarn's Spine. To the south the Amurites, Svartalfar, and Luchurip dwell. There is alot of food but limted land. To the north are the Doviello and Illians. Most of this land is tundra or ice, but minerals abound in the area, as well as animals to hunt. Here are the starting points- The Luchruip Start (http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0000au2.jpg) The Amurite Start (http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0003qe3.jpg) The Svartalfar Start (http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0002ba1.jpg) The Doviello Start (http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0004hu3.jpg) The Illian Start (http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0005mb8.jpg) * Note the Luchurip have a strong starting point, they are the only good civilzation. I will release this with a couple of other maps on a later date. I don't know if I'll do all the aformentioned maps. Does anyone have a map they'd really like? Demus Mar 21, 2008, 02:36 PM i'd just go ahead and release it anyway, it sounds like fun :p. Gives us some time to playtest it, for balance reasons etc. Rex rgis of Ter Mar 21, 2008, 03:06 PM Your not going to trick me:lol::p I don't want to have tons of files on the downloads database, so I'm going to release them in one file which I'll update with new maps periodically. BTW, Alfheim works with .31a.:) I'm looking through the sceanarios for inspiration currently. I'm feeling very close to a Labrscum, Aestas Estas, or Strait of (whatever, it's hell). EDIT: On the hell sceanario: I'm encountering difficulties with resources on the map. They all change when you load the map. I don't know what to do, so it's out. JDexter Mar 21, 2008, 04:53 PM I will release this with a couple of other maps on a later date. I don't know if I'll do all the aformentioned maps. Does anyone have a map they'd really like? Mountains of Esus! Rex rgis of Ter Mar 21, 2008, 10:44 PM This is another unreleased map. It's size is tiny, and three civilization are the Malakim, Calabim, and Sidar. Most of the map is desert. A small mountain range and even smaller pass leads to the food rich but small Sidar lands. The Desert has three Oasis. One, Shining Oasis houses the Malakim. The Red Oasis houses the Calabim, while a ferocious and evil dragon lives along the shores of the Fallen Oasis. Here are some screenshots: The Shining Oasis (http://img72.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0006cp9.jpg) The Red Oasis (http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0008rd6.jpg) The Fallen Oasis (http://img72.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0007rs4.jpg) Valley of the Sidar (http://img72.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0009uw5.jpg) The Small but Coveted Mammon's Oasis (http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0010en4.jpg) Once I've finished two more maps (themes undecided) I'll release all of these, along with a new version of Alfheim, terminating the current version. Talk about the need for water mana... For this scenario i'd try to see if someone can disable the spring and vitalize spells, otherwise you're giving the player a WAY to big advantage over the AI DharmaMcLaren Mar 22, 2008, 07:16 AM Your maps are pretty beautiful, and the Alfheim one was fun to play. Keep up the good work. ^^ Rex rgis of Ter Mar 22, 2008, 08:58 PM The new map pack has been released here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=8844). The Link for Alfheim is dead, as I deleted the old file. |
