View Full Version : Alliances
rene_ryou Mar 07, 2008, 10:41 AM hey
do the names of civilizations change when one or the other engage in a permanent alliance with another? If not, have you ever considered doing that?
just a thought...
jdog5000 Mar 09, 2008, 12:16 AM No they currently don't ... do you have any suggestions for how it could be done?
One possibility, say Japan and Russia form an alliance they could be called the 'Japanese-Russian Alliance' or 'Russian-Japanese Alliance depending on which player you were talking to.
Mohatma Mar 09, 2008, 12:30 AM Maybe it may depend on era too? Like "Union" and so on.
TheLastOne36 Mar 09, 2008, 08:54 AM Other Names could work as well.
Such as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

That was more than an alliance, though. Think "Warsaw Pact".
Sonereal Apr 10, 2008, 06:03 PM It would be cool to have a "USSR" style alliance between Russia and China.
Mohatma Apr 11, 2008, 05:26 PM How is USSR linked to a Chinese-Russian alliance?
rene_ryou Apr 16, 2008, 10:41 AM I've done some thinking about this, and if someone was to set up the code to do this, i'd provide the names. Here is my basic naming scheme
1. The two nations change to the name of their people's adjectives + alliance {English-Dutch Alliance}
2. Names based on era would be of little need because permenant alliances come later in the game
3. If possible, we could use historical names for alliances [the warsaw pact, the hanseatic league, etc.
as i said, all i need is the framework, and i can apply names for specific alliances. To whomever does this, how difficult would it be to do something like this?
thank you for your help

jdog5000 Apr 16, 2008, 11:51 AM It's in there already :) Since 1.41 ... check out DynamicCivNames.py, do a search for "alliance" and you'll find the section pretty quick.
Look at how some of the other special names (Reich, Sultanate, etc) are done for ideas on how you could make changes.
rene_ryou Apr 16, 2008, 05:12 PM In that case, i'll see what i can do and post it somewhere
thanks again
Ermelinho May 09, 2008, 06:24 AM what i always wanted to have is something like the "warsaw pact". so maybe alliances could be named after the capital of one of the members. i hate this Tokugawa/Isabella style. why not name it kyoto pact or madrid treaty? moreover, more than only two civs should be able to join (and leave again under certain conditions). maybe it could be linked to a wonder, similar to apostolic palace. so if there where two of these wonders, there could be two blocks like warsaw pact and nato...
IceFire9 May 10, 2008, 02:20 PM I like that Idea, it would be neat to have huge world wars sprouting from the creation of super- alliances.
It would also make diplomacy more important in the game.

wow you've been here since 06 and you just decided this was important enough to post in?
IceFire9 May 10, 2008, 04:28 PM Yeah, I lost interest in Civ for a while, I got back into it a few months ago.
Ermelinho May 10, 2008, 08:01 PM  welcome back!
