How many civilizations should we play with?

Discussions and general consensus have established that we should either have the same number of civs as standard map normally gets, or at the maximum 3 more additional civs. Total number of civs will therefore be established in poll, us included:

Options are:

1. 6 Civs
2. 7 Civs
3. 8 Civs
4. 9 Civs
5 .10 Civs

This is a two day, public poll. In case of a tie, it will be between the two runner ups.

How many is the standard for the map type we pick? :)

I think it is 6/7 that is the norm, I would of course like more, but the players decide this.

The only problem with having more civ's on the map than normal is that, in my experience, this makes the game much easier.

We should think about making the difficulty harder if that is the case.

Yes, this is why we are taking Difficulty as our last decision, when all other things are handled.

The poll is producing a bipolar distribution. I suggest a runoff between the two poles regardless whether it's a tie or not.

The poll is yet to go complete, and then we see how it goes, it may well be a polar run-off as you suggested, but we need to see how the players vote first.

My question is why people would want to have less than the standard amount of civs on the map ><

I think the answer is because this poll is a little confusing. I assume the poll is asking how many civs in addition to our own we want; if you want the "normal" number, you would vote 6 (there are 7 total civs on a normal map, I believe). But the poll could also be construed to read how many total civs we want total. In that case, if you want normal, you'd vote 7.

In any case, I voted "6" but what I want is the normal number.

6 is the normal number (us included), 6-10 is the range.

I don't think that's right, the normal number on a standard size map including the player should be 7, unless it is different on some maps.

7 then. Some mentioned 6, which is why it is on the poll.

Maybe scrap this poll and change the options to
Standard (7)
Standard +1 (8)
+2 (9)
+3 (10)

As people seem to be confused on what they're actually voting for ;)

This poll is clear enough. It states: "How many civilizations should we play with?", which means how many civs should be in the game.

Anyways, we will repoll the top three lead options.

Anyways, we will repoll the top three lead options.

Kindly use the interpretations you posted the poll with. If there is no tie, go with the option with the most votes. If there is a tie, poll between those.

Otherwise, don't ever complain (as you've done) when someone changes how a poll is interpreted.

Actually, I will stick to the original interpretation, unlike some here, which allows me to comment such practices later (it is not a "rigging-comment", in case someone feels for overreporting me as usual).

Moderator, would you please change my vote from 10 to 9. 6 is too little of a number for this game.

Having a few more would promote more rp options

Actually i think it would be the other way round, as more civs means more complex foregin relations so allowing for more rp based on diplency (spelt badly!)

A few more means more, as opposed to a copious amount more

Crowded maps lead to more war, especially early war. Which might be a good thing, or might be bad. :crazyeye:
