View Full Version : What resolution is your monitor?
ArmOrAttAk Jul 06, 2002, 09:28 PM I use 800x600 anything higher makes me strain my eyes to read. Somebody made a forum that I have to scroll to read the whole thing. He replies that his laptop is 1600x1200! So I'm just curious what the majority of people use. Was going to post a poll but, I think easier just write what you use.
Thanks
King of Camelot Jul 06, 2002, 09:38 PM I use 1024x768 and can read things easily.
TedG Jul 06, 2002, 09:45 PM I use 1024 X 768. When I first started using it, everything looked tiny and a little hard to read, but now I'm so used to it that lower resolutions look really bad.
Ohwell Jul 06, 2002, 09:48 PM 1024 by 768 is the best, anything lower is just horrible. But my laptop can go up to 1400 by 1050... the screen isn't big enough to accomodate it that well though.
CornMaster Jul 06, 2002, 09:50 PM 1024x768 at home.
800x600 at work because the system sucks...and my co-workers are like blind. ;)
watto Jul 06, 2002, 10:11 PM i use 800x600 cause other ppl that use the comp have trouble reading stuff at 1024x768
Lovro Jul 07, 2002, 01:25 AM I use 960x720. Just enough no to be as tiny as 1024x768, and also has a bit of that 800x600 feeling to it. ;)
BlueMonday Jul 07, 2002, 01:26 AM I use 1024x768 (32 bit). Anything lower looks like sh!t and anything higher sucks. I used to keep my games at 800x600 or lower, but now that I've got the GeForce 4 I run all my junk at 1024x768x32.
philippe Jul 07, 2002, 02:27 AM 800*600:)
starlifter Jul 07, 2002, 02:50 AM Normal apps/games: 1024x768
FPS: 800x600
I use an nVidia TNT-1 video card, with a 400 MHz AMD K6-2 CPU with a 17" MAG monitor, so I find the FPS games work best at only 800x600.
KaeptnOvi Jul 07, 2002, 03:12 AM Desktop-Computer: 1024x768 because the monitor has got problems with higher resolutions (can only get them with 60Hz which is horrible).
Notebook: 1400x1050 I just love this resolution, I have so much space on my desktop....
DaEezT Jul 07, 2002, 03:28 AM My 19" monitor (max. resolution: 1920*1440) runs at 1280*960*16 in Windows and Civ3, 640*480*16 in HL, 1024*768*16 in WC3 and around 800*600*16 in all other games
Hitro Jul 07, 2002, 04:20 AM 800*600 on the desktop for me. Different with some games.
Lucky Jul 07, 2002, 04:45 AM 1024x768 for mostly everything.
For a few apps a bit higher (e.g. USAF 1280x1024) and others lower (DOS apps, duh!).
:D
damunzy Jul 07, 2002, 05:33 PM 1024x768x32bit@85Hz for my home monitor (17")
1280x1024x32bit@85Hz for my work monitor (21") - The icons get too small at anything higher but the monitor does work nicely at higher.
Games: all at home
800x600x16bit@whatever game gives me
Reason: My video card is a few generations old.
gonzo_for_civ Jul 08, 2002, 09:03 PM I use the last two PH mentioned at home and work respectively.
chiefpaco Jul 09, 2002, 08:06 PM 1152x864 for my 17". Used to do the 1024x768 thing but got used to the higher, after time. I find I get so used to a certain resolution...
IceBlaZe Jul 10, 2002, 02:55 AM 1280x1024x32bit on desktop and most games, unless they are too new. (Geforce 4 ti4600 allows me that :D)
Monitor is 17".
Lostman Jul 10, 2002, 12:33 PM At work I use 1024 x 768, at home I use 1280x 1024.
Civddict Jul 10, 2002, 08:08 PM 1152x864 x 32bits x85Hz, on 19" samsung monitor.
Solver Jul 15, 2002, 04:46 AM It really depends on the monitior... for old 14" monitors, and usually 15" monitors 800x600 is the best resolution. For 17" monitors, though, 1024x768 is the best. On a 17" under 1024, things look almost as big as on a 15" 800, and are easy to read, still more fits on the screen.
So, whenever I get to a 17" monitor, I use 1024x768 there. At home, I got an 8 years old monitor, which proudly wears 800x600.
Oh, and I'm really happy to be immune to the monitor refresh rate. That is, I really see NO different between 60 and 85 Hz - I see that many people can tell if monitor is on 60 Hz rate, I just don't see the difference.
Zwelgje Jul 15, 2002, 12:33 PM 1024 x 768
I really like this, at work I run 800 x 600 I believe and it looks horrible, the icons are huge and I have to scroll back and forth on many websites....
IceBlaZe Jul 15, 2002, 03:04 PM 1024x768 is best for 15". Unless you have a bad sight.

80 Mz is *barely* acceptable to me, personally. Unfortunatley, I'm quite susceptible to it :).
Lovro Jul 16, 2002, 01:06 AM 75 Hz is enough for me, but I also choke on 60 Hz... :)
Solver Jul 16, 2002, 02:47 AM Weird... can anyone tell me what do you see on a 60 Hz monitor? To me, it looks the same... I have to go to Display settings to find out the refresh rate...
