View Full Version : Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a Failure

One of the most anticipated games for the Wii has fallen completely on it's face. The online portion of the game is completely FUBARed. Let me explain;

The only surefire way to currently play other people is to go online to forums to get a 12 digit player code for other people. Why? Because their servers for matchmaking are not working in the least. You can connect to several times and you still wont be matched up for a game.

Nintendo really dropped the ball on this. I dont know if it is the lack of anticipation of people going online, or poor server coding. All I know is, this is a glaring failure on Nintendo's part to deliver the product out of the box.

The funniest excuse from Nintendo Fanboys is this:

Everyone is playing single player to unlock characters.

Buyer beware!

I never understood the appeal of this game.

It just seems like random button mashing to me.. There is so much stuff going on screen that you can't ever tell wth is going on.

This is what amphetamines and caffeine were made for.

I'm gonna disagree with the OP here. SSBB is a "smashing" success. The gameplay is improved (15 new characters and 20 returning, including modifications to some) , the soundtrack is off the charts, the 1P mode is fantastic (though NOT the reason the buy the game), and it has the lasting appeal of Melee. They've expanded on the game so much, while keeping the simplicity of Super Smash Bros.

It ISN'T just random button mashing. If you randomly button mash, you get smoked.

Sure, online sucks if what you say is true, but where I am, there are about 30 players here and the lounge has been full since the game was released at 12 AM Sunday because said game is so amazing.

I don't recall there being online multiplayer for the previous SB games, and they were a lot of fun. So I don't see how that makes the whole game a failure.

And I never had a problem with too much happening no screen and soon figoured out how to play better as button mashing isn't highly effective (this was for Melee).

If you're buying SSBB for online play, you need to find some real friends to play with.

Well I wish I lived in your neck of the woods because the random player matchmaking is screwed. I have 8 mbps DSL and have spent the better part of 3 hours searching for games. And I live in downtown Seattle.

It was released yesterday, have patience! Not everyone can buy the game immediately. Some of us have to wait for their friend who owns the Wii to come back from South America first.

I concur with this post.:goodjob:

I haven't played SSBB yet, but I've read some glowing reviews and I will play it as soon as I can. Smash Bros. is one of the best fighting franchises ever.

I agree with these posts as well.

Tbh, all since yesterday when I bought the game, I havn't been able to stop playing. Yeah the online part of it is broken, but the single player adventure = /win.

Adventure mode reminds me of the original Nintendo games with the side scrolling action. Its fantastic.

Yeah, the online problems are dissapointing. You can connect to friends fine but random matches are suffering from server problems at the moment. I'm guessing Nintendo is working on it 24/7 as it is a potentially huge problem.

The game is pretty much awesome fun though.

You realize they will fix this?

This doesnt make the game a failure... Server malfunctions have nothign to do with the quality put into the game.

I think there is a failure somewhere along the line. Again, is it not being aware of the possibility of problems, or is it inefficiency in the code, or what? I don't know exactly how they run their servers for matchmaking but i pray it is something that can be resolved at a scalability level rather than a server rewrite.

I've got an idea for you, sue Nintendo for $5,000,000 for some vague breach fo contract.

Which reminds me, I wonder if those idiots from Texas had their case thrown out of court yet (they sued Microsoft because X-Box Live went down over the christmas holidays due to mroe traffic than it could handle).

I disagree entirely -- SSBB is truly a spectacular game. The reasons that were aforementioned wrap up my argument nicely.

I only play Single Player, and I have no capability to use the online portion, so I'm fine with what I bought.

I find it hilarious that people think suing a game company will fix anything.
